Influence of Parents on Children's Sexual Orientation
Do parents influence their children's sexuality? The answer may
surprise you: no they do not. It has been found that about 90% of sons of gay
fathers are heterosexual (Bailey 124). It was also found that 90% of daughters
of lesbian women are also heterosexual (Golombok 4). According to a poll taken
by Northwestern University almost 95% of people expect children of homosexual
parents to be homosexual themselves (Bailey 125). This popular belief has
affected many child custody decisions because of the possibility of the parents
molesting the children, or the possibility of the children becoming homosexual
themselves. Even if the children becoming homosexual is a possibility, why deny
custody to a parent based on his or her sexuality?
The question has been raised on what can and what can't make a child
homosexual. Some believe that children learn by imitating their parents. This
theory cannot be totally rejected, but due to recent research it is believed to
be more unlikely. Others have said that children identify with an opposite-sex
parent and copying their behavior, this coupled with a distant same-sex parent
makes the argument even more believable. It is also possible that homosexual
parents reinforce certain types of behavior, either homo- or heterosexual
(Bailey 125-126).
Some say that hormones affect the sexuality of children, which may be
inherited from the parents. For example, an anatomical difference in the
hypothalamus of homosexual men has recently been identified, but the reason for
this difference is still unknown (Golombok 4). Sex hormones are seen by some...

... Whether it be hormones or genes inherited from the parents,
or the environment a child is brought up in, researchers still need to complete
their studies on the issue to find out the truth behind the matter.

The Bill of Rights or the first 10 amendments to the Constitution was proposed to Congress in 1789 by James Madison in response to the Anti- Federalist movement that lobbied for an extended amount of rights that would further safeguard liberty. The 4th amendment in particular was drafted to acknowledge the abuse of the writ of assistance, a “search warrant” issued by the British government to search boats that were thought to contain smuggled material in Colonial America. The 4th amendment can be broken down into 3 parts: what activities are considered to be a “search” or a “seizure”; what is a probable cause for a “search” and “seizure” and finally, how violations should be dealt with. The evolution of the 4th amendment is long and tumultuous, starting from what it meant at time of drafting, to the controversy over different interpretations in modern times. Through all the controversies and the debate over the meaning of the 4th amendment, the essence is always the same: to protect man’s liberty.
The Fourth Amendment came almost directly from experience of the colonials. But it wasn’t introduced only as a fundamental right, but also as a major part of the English ideals as well. In England, ''Everyman's house is his castle'' was an honored phrase, enforcing the idea that it is not only is it a law, but a right that cannot be delegated by any government idea. There are two major cases where this idea was tried. Semayne’s Case and Entick v. Carrington.
Without having any value judgments on sexual deviancy- the word itself many seem to imply disapproval. Whether it be transvestism, voyeurism, exhibitionism, or sadomasochism, sexual deviancy is by many considered unnatural and inhuman. However these two words 'unnatural and inhuman' is exactly what homosexuality is not. The truth is, sexual deviancy is as much a function of biology and as much a product of nature - as the orthodox sexuality which society accepts as 'natural'. Of course some adult sexual orientation is caused by early social conditioning, but through research and hard evidence, scientists have found that sex, gender and sexual orientation are all determined genetically.
The Fourth Amendment is important for many reasons. In this essay I will outline the historical origins of the Fourth Amendment and assess why its inclusion was so important to those considering ratifying the Constitution. I will also select a case in which a search warrant was used during an investigation. By outlining the case I will state my opinion about whether or not a warrant was necessary and how the search warrant contributed or did not contribute to the result in the case.
There are many different types of sexual abuse, some more extreme than others. Sexual abuse falls into two categories: contact and non-contact. 5 Sexual abuse involving contact “may include fondling a child's genitals, masturbation, oral-genital contact, digital penetration, and vaginal and anal intercourse” and non-contact sexual abuse could include “exposure, voyeurism, and child pornography.” 6 All sexual abuse, no matter how severe or mild by definition, is damaging to the young child and can affect his/her neurological and psychological development and health, and affect him/her throughout life.
Young children are exposed to violence every day. In TV shows, books, games, cartoons, movies, and the internet, violence is a part of everyone’s lives, but especially those of young kids. For example, recently Paramount Pictures released Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, a weapon slinging twist on a classic fairy tale (McKay). In the movie they have people blow their own heads off with a shotgun. In retrospect this movie isn’t meant for children 13 and below, although kids would want to see a “fairy tale” like this. Young 10 year olds, today even ...
When we talk about sexual abuse, it is natural for us to think about the sexual abuse happened among adults. Actually, sexual abuse towards children is also very common not only in the United States, but also common around the world. First of all, I am going to explain what child sexual abuse is. Child sexual abuse is the abuse that happens to children before they turned eighteen and usually perpetuated by trusted family and friend instead of strangers. Both touching and non-touching behaviors belong to sexual abuse. It could be difficult for children to give consent or reject the perpetuator because they do not know enough about the sexual activities, or they might be afraid to endanger other people. After the abuse experience, it is unlikely
What controls a human's sexual orientation? The long-standing debate of nature versus nurture can be extended to explaining human sexual orientation. Is it biological or environmental? The biological explanation has been gaining popularity amongst the scientific community although it is only based on speculations. It is argued that sexual orientation is linked to factors that occur during sexual differentiation. The prenatal exposure to androgens and their affect on the development of the human brain play a pivotal role in sexual orientation (2). Heredity is also part of the debate. Does biology merely provide the slate of neural circuitry upon which sexual orientation is inscribed? Do biological factors directly wire the brain so that it will support a particular orientation? Or do biological factors influence sexual orientation only indirectly?
The Fourth Amendment was in large part a reaction to the general warrants and warrantless searches that had upset the colonists and had helped to speed up the movement for independence. Due to the fact that many goods had been brought illegally into the colonies before and during the Revolutionar...
Pink is for girls and blue is for boys. Isn’t that a stereotype we deal with from the time we escape the womb? Gender is part of our social structure, just as race and class are. When applied to Camara Phyllis Jones ' article, "The Gardener 's Tale," men are the red flowers and women are the pink. From the moment of birth, men and women are put into different pots. (UK essays,2015). For decades Psychologist have been conducting experiments to determine what has an effect on a person’s gender identity. Their conclusions show that biological influences, environmental influences, social learning theory and gender schema theory all have some type of effect on gender identity. There are many sides to Nature vs. Nurture, specifically when it comes to gender identity. However, both sides discussed here agree that nature and

Women nowadays are becoming mothers at an early age and often have to the raise the child on their own. Due to this hardship, they must improvise when it comes to adjusting to the change of now raising a child and their parenting skills. They must manage their personal goals while trying to provide a stable structure for their child. Many times they fall short due to their lack of resources and stress. Regardless of their romantic relationship status, it often falls on the mother to raise the child. Even though it is important for both parents to be present in a child’s life, if a parent is participating in deviant behavior, then sometimes it is best for the child to be raised by one parent.
“While permissive parenting or indulgent parenting is a style of parenting in which parents are very involved with their children but place few demands or controls on them” (Santrock, 2007). These parenting styles are utilized to determine how they raise their children. There are consequences on how the children behave with these different parenting styles. Like the children of authoritative parents tend to be more lively and have a happy disposition, has self-confidence in the ability to master tasks and has well-developed emotion regulation. The children of the authoritarian parents has an unhappy disposition and are rather anxious and withdrawn, do well in school but has poor reactions to frustrations and are not likely to engage in antisocial activities while the children of the permissive parents have poor emotion regulation, low persistence to challenging tasks, antisocial behaviours and become rebellious when desires are not met (Baumrind, 1966,pg. 887-907). “Mothers and fathers tend to pick up different behaviours of parenting based on the sex of their child”(Putnam & Myers, 2014). “According to Stephen (2014) Studies have shown that “fathers can affect their daughters' emotional adjustment more through the style of parenting they demonstrate rather than through
From the moment people born, there are certain basic functions that will be with them throughout their lives. The abilities to eat, breathe, sleep, or to have the capacity to learn are a natural occurrence for most people. There are, however, traits that are specific to each individual. They are traits that set them apart from everyone else. The traits such as eye color, ones dominate hand, or susceptibility to a specific disease are a few traits that aren’t easily changed. However, there are some that are controversially questioned as to whether or not one is born with the trait or if it is a learned behavior. One of the biggest of these controversies is the question of whether sexual orientation is a choice or something that is beyond the individual’s influence. Although the evidence is commonly disregarded because of personal beliefs or opinions, sexual orientation is not a choice.
Sexual abuse is a form of child abuse. It can be defined as “contact or interaction between child and an adult where the child is being used in sexual manner by an adult.” Sex abuse includes a wide range of sexual activities including both nonviolent, nonphysical acts such as revealing themselves to a child along with physical and sometimes violent contact. This contact can include touching, oral or genital contact, genital stimulation and penetration, and exploitation of children through pornography and prostitution. In most cases, the abuser is known to the victim. After the child is sexually abused, many times the abuser then bribes or threatens the victim.
