Understanding Universe's Infinity through Aquinas' Summa Theologica

In Aquinas Selections from, “Summa Theologica” he wants us to understand that the nature of the universe is infinite. He talks about how there are different meaning to words that can be used to describe things. In the Selections from Summa Theologica it says, “whose power is to signify his meaning, not by words only (as man also can do), but also by things themselves.” Aquinas is trying to explain that the universe offers us multiple ways on putting meanings to words. I understood that the universe allows us to have different words that can have different meanings to them. In addition, the nature of the universe can be also explained when Aquinas mentions that “the property, that the things signified by the words have themselves also a signification.” …show more content…

In the Selections from Summa Theologica it says, “The knowledge of god is naturally implanted in all. Therefore the existence of god is self-evident.” This shows how the humans think. Humans are minimalistic in the way that just because we are naturally implanted with the existence of god, we know that he is real. We don’t think further on and ask other questions that might question the existence of god. Just because we are told from a young age that god exists we believe it, this is a great example that Aquinas gives because it clearly shows how human are minimalistic and how their knowledge is based on basic …show more content…

Like the example that Aquinas gives in the selections of the existence of god. The word god means that there is a creator that makes things possible, and it exists. Though it cannot be proven we are naturally integrated with the word and its meaning. The nature of humans is minimalist because humans only use their basic knowledge. Humans limit their minds to knowing more answers to things, like the existence of god. Instead of humans going on beyond their knowledge they conform themselves with the smallest answer possible. In order for humans to be happy they must accept and understand that the existence of god cannot be proven, but there are ideas that can be used to accept the possibility that god does exist. Words are powerful and can have multiple meanings which help us describe many things and understand how things work and why they
