Ever since I was a child I knew teaching was my calling in life. I want to be a teacher because I absolutely love children and I want to be able to make a difference in a child’s life just like some of my teachers have done for me. My ninth grade Spanish teacher, Mrs. Grimm, was the one who influenced me to become a teacher because she made learning so much fun and everyday I couldn’t wait to get to her class. With every lesson she made up a song to go along with it that way when it was time for the test, us students could easily remember the lesson by singing the song. I want to be that kind of teacher where a child looks forward to coming to my classroom. I want students to think I am fun and not boring.
During my sophomore year, I found out about the Teacher Academy program that was offered at my high school. I signed up and I got accepted into the Teacher Academy program at the beginning of my junior year. In order to get into this program I had to write a personal narrative of why I wanted to be a teacher and I had to get a teachers recommendation. When I got the letter that said I was accepted I was ecstatic.
This program has opened so many opportunities for me. For example, I get to work with teachers at the local elementary schools and inside the classroom. I get to do volunteer work at the YMCA, nursing homes, and food pantries at local churches. These opportunities have impacted my life in numerous ways. It has taught me to be loving and caring towards everyone I meet, to never judge someone by the way they look or act and that first impressions can always change. In conclusion, I am delighted to have been accepted into the Teacher Academy program offered at Hamilton High School. This program has taught me how to be a great teacher, how to construct lessons and procedures, how to make my classroom a safe and positive learning environment to my students, and it has helped me in my own life. I have learned how to not be judgmental of people I meet. I have really matured from this program and it has taught me to be professional with everything I do. I know from taking this class I am prepared for the classes I will be taking at college. This program has offered me so many great opportunities like volunteering at different places and doing internships at local Elementary schools.
The reason I want to be a teacher is so I can make a positive impact in the lives’ of children similar to the teachers that taught me who impacted my life growing up. When I was six years old my family left Mexico and migrated to Greenville, Texas. The transition was challenging; I left behind everything I knew and was forced to adapt to a brand new world where I could not understand the language that everyone spoke. Luckily for me, Greenville had a bilingual program and I was placed in the classroom of Ms. Ramirez. The main reason I would like to become a teacher is the love for little kids. I really enjoy being around children. After teaching Sunday School to children up to 8 years of age for over five years, I feel that I can relate to them and connect with them very well. I also feel that students look up to teachers, so they are a very big influence on the children's’ lives. I would love to know that I could make such a big influence on a child’s life. In my opinion teachers have an impact on the life of every student they ever have in class.
It was a life changing experience. Furthermore, during my time in the WGSS program, I’ve had the privilege of being supported by extremely caring faculty members in my academic endeavors, as well as in my pursuit of a vocation that encompasses both my politics and passions that prioritizes on community empowerment.
This program exposed me to Asian cultures in a way I had never thought possible. Living in an Asian country, even for only a week, and being mixed with students from around the world brought me face to face with cultures I had never before truly experienced.
My teacher interview was with Jessica Mays/Richie. Jessica is fresh out of the program from Chico State University. For a first year teacher she is doing really well, and I’m surprised at how well her kindergarten class is. Just being in her class as a volunteer I have learned so much about what its like to be a teacher. Instead of looking into experience, because she doesn’t have much yet, she told me things that she learned from being a new teacher. I believe that this will help me through the program and becoming a future teacher.
My journey in education has shaped me as an individual and an educator. I am thankful for every experience and opportunity I have been through. The knowledge that I have gained about the profession will stay with me when I become an educator. I have a deep understanding of what it takes to be a teacher, and know that through my experiences, I am ready and excited for what this profession has to offer me and what I have to offer the profession.
To begin out of the countless professions one has to chose from in the world today I have chosen to become a teacher. I have chosen to become a teacher because I myself am a product of some whom I consider to be the best teachers in the world. As a child in North Carolina I was inspired by a wonderful woman named Mrs. Hollyfield. Mrs. Hollyfield taught me that no star was too far out of reach, if I put my mind to accomplishing my goal I could make it. Mrs. Hollyfield inspired me to be the best I could be at anything I wanted to be. As I have grown I have had other important teachers, some whom I am surrounded by daily whom inspire me to set out to accomplish my dreams. These wonderful inspiring people in my life have led me to the decision of becoming a teacher.
My interest in teaching started at a young age. I used to watch my teachers in awe as they were able to find new ways to get their students involved and excited to learn. Their enthusiasm to teach was so inspiring. I would often find myself using that same fervor as I grasped each concept. I, then, was able to relay it to my fellow classmates as a peer tutor. To this day, becoming a teacher is a passion that flows through me. However, my enthusiasm and passion are not the only reasons I would be a good teacher. I aspire to see a student’s ability to grasp the knowledge they never before understood. I aspire to see a student succeed at something they never thought they ever could. I aspire to not only support students with academic skills, but also with life lessons about the value of community, pride in one’s own ethnicity, good citizenship, sportsmanship, and more. ... way that I would ever enlist into the military. After that trip I am seriously considering enlisting into the Coast Guard, because I like what they do and it is a great opportunity. Another thing that I enjoyed this year was the Winners Circle project which was to talk to the lower class students and inspire them to do their very best on the CSTs. I enjoyed going into classrooms and sharing some experiences and answering their questions. But the fun part was to go and deliver the water bottles for the students that were going to be testing and it all paid out when I heard that we had actually made a difference.
My career choices have changed through the years from mother and housewife through architect, accountant, or teacher, finally I have arrived at a computer career. The following is an idea of the path I have followed.
A teacher is not what I have always wanted to be. As a matter of fact, it wasn't until I had taken several of my general studies classes that I made a commitment to teach. Having played football through middle school and high school, I just assumed that whatever I did would have to be related to football. It was, however, during a time of reflection that I thought about a former football coach and the rapport that he had with me and other players. He wanted to bring out the best in each of us. It was then that I realized that I wanted to do the same.
"The jury has made their decision, the plaintiff has been found guilty." These are the words that one day I will finally hear. My future goal is to be a lawyer. A lawyer is a professional person authorized to practice law. They defend or prosecute people for the crimes they have committed. (dictionary.com) I am very out spoken and believe in fighting for what I want or think is right.
There have been many factors that have inspired me to this career choice. Watching my teachers, both past and present, has inspired me to become a teacher. I have a genuine interest in lifelong learning and as such I have the desire to not only instil knowledge and values to others, but also encourage them to share my passion for learning. Social Justice and leadership roles at school, along with my extra-curricular involvement with Cowra Youth Council, have highlighted my ability to work with and for the benefit of young people. In essence I know that my abilities and aspirations will make me a good teacher.
Even at a young age, I had a love for teaching and always knew that would be my profession. Making school desks out of sticks and mud while giving my Baby Alive her assignments is a fond and cherished memory I have dating back to my early childhood. At 4 years old, I pushed my mom to allow me to start school a year early because my brother was starting first grade, and I didn’t want to be left out.
Teaching is a daunting task that I do not intend to take lightly. Becoming a teacher has been a dream of mine for several years. I always knew that teaching would be the career for me, especially when I began working in the school system as a substitute secretary. I loved working in the school environment; coming in contact with children everyday made me realize how much I would enjoy teaching a classroom full of students.
