The movie “Good Morning Vietnam” was a film about Army soldiers during the Vietnam War. Adrian Cronauer was in the Air Force and came to the Army in Vietnam to do a radio show. When Adrian did the show his humor, and personality changed the whole perspective of the men in the Army. He made the guys laugh, and gave them something enjoyable to listen to. This movie displayed how important language, personality, humor, and perception can be to people, and how it can affect their lives. The guys that would be on the radio before Adrian were extremely boring, and hard to listen to. Language is the formal grammatical structure of words. This movie is a good example of parole. Parole is how people actually use language, usually informal and not grammatically correct. In the movie the Army’s higher ranking officers wanted Adrian to speak formally, and professionally. Adrian was able to connect with the soldiers by using informal phrases. Adrian Spoke to the guys like they were regular people, not soldiers, and they were able to relate and listen with enjoyment. Adrian used a low code of language, which is also informal and usually grammatically incorrect. Most people usually talk in low code, but in the Army it is expected that people talk in high code. Communication is one of the most important skills in life. This movie teaches how important it is to have a great personality when communicating with people. People looked up to Adrian, because of his communication skills. He was able to use verbal and nonverbal communication all the time, that made his use of language incredible. I think having a good sense of humor is important in life. This movie showed how important humor can be, and how it can change people 's perception of a situation. One of the higher ranking soldiers did not agree with what Adrian would say on the radio, even thought it was making the soldiers happy. Adrian did what he thought was right and would say his sometimes inappropriate jokes, and play music that was not allowed. He knew what was more entertaining and better for the troops, and he followed what he believed in. I can relate to Adrian’s experience being on the radio. I was asked to be on the radio about one year ago. I was nervous at first unlike Adrian; he was very confident on the radio. Once I started talking I became confident and outgoing.
