I had the opportunity to watch the movie “Kinsey.” In the process of watching this movie, I had different reactions when some scenes were presented. First of all, in the movie it showed that Kinsey’s father who was the preacher of a church was close minded about the topic of sex. However, I felt that this movie generalized that all pastors or preachers are close minded to talk about topics that refer to sex. In my experience, my pastor is very open to talk about sex, he would teach teenagers about what sex is about and he would talk to couple about that topic openly. However, it is true that keeping teenagers from sexual encounters before marriage is one of the goals preachers have.
Also, it was interesting that Kinsey was able to stay without having sexual encounters with any girl until marriage. I believe that it is appropriate for a couple to experience their first sexual encounter with the

I am not used to watch those types of scenes in movies; especially watching those types of scenes in a room full of strangers. Also, I felt that Kinsey was very open to seek for help from an expert in regards of his sexual difficulties with his wife; however, he was hesitant to even mention the side of his penis. I think it was interesting how Kinsey’s lock of knowledge about sex intrigue him to do researches and experiments of why sex was a topic that many people were not open to talk about. However, I think Kinsey went too far to reach his goal. Seeing Kinsey kissing with another man was an awkward moment, I did not see that coming. I think his desire to find out what people experience in their sexual encounters, was a motive why Kinsey decided to sleep with a man. I am against same sex encounters due to my religion beliefs, and watching Kinsey with another man was not a pleasant experience. I would like to state that I do not dislike gays or lesbians; however, I do not approve their sexual
He proposed a theory that people are different from one another, yet they strive to be the same. People have the desire to “fit in” or be “normal. This subconscious yearning to be like others causes people to betray their natural nature and to be untrue to their selves. What one considers the norm, pertaining to sex, another might not. Since the topic is rarely discussed, the idea of “normal” in society is ultimately a guess. We should not disregard our natural behaviors as humans to please others or to be accepted into a society or a culture. We have the freedom to make our own sexual decisions and possess our own values. Kinsey, a film written and directed by Bill Condon, chronicles the story of well renowned human sexuality researcher Alfred Kinsey, and his struggles of being the first to study what was considered a taboo subject back in that time period. The film does a great job of not only telling his story, but it also integrating real theories from psychology and sociology.
The production code of the day did not allow the characters do be described as crazy or sexual. The production code expressly forbade it. Even scripts had to be read before the movie could be filmed. Once the movie was done, censors viewed it before they allowed it to be released for the general public. Furthermore, you can forget about seeing anything close to a naked woman or a sexual scene on the screen.
In chapters 9 and 13 in “The Spirit of Intimacy” by Somé, she discusses how the Western society has constructed an illusion of romance. This illusion of romance is presented in our media such as television, movies, and social media. She believes that basing a relationship off of romance leads people to mask their true selves which eventually leads to issues in the relationships long term. By building a relationship based on a spiritual connection, it allows individuals to build their relationship from the bottom up, be honest with themselves as well as their partners, and helps people better understand their partners in order to have a happy and fulfilled relationship. Furthermore, Somé discusses homosexuality and how her village refers to gays and lesbians as the gatekeepers. They live on the edge of both the spiritual and the village world. The gatekeepers serve as mediators for men and women so they are able to better understand each other in their daily lives. The movie opens playing the song “Try a Little Tenderness” while showing a mid-air refuel of a bomber plane, Focusing on an opening shot of a long nozzle as it lowers into the gas tank of another plane and remaining focused on the long nozzle as the planes fly away. The refuel, while harmless and normal procedure for planes flying for longer periods of time, looks much like “a plane screwing another plane” (LAWRENCE WHITEHURST, YouTube commenter). This not so subtle sexuality sets the audience up to feel sexual tension within the first few minutes of the film. Once the viewer is thinking of the underlying sexual references in the film, the idea of actual sexual inadequacies being used in the modern militia seems less and less preposterous.
Within the novel, When Everything Feels Like the Movies written by Raziel Reid, there is strong graphic language and depictions of sexuality. Throughout the novel each character including Jude and Angela explores their sexuality and experience the repercussions that follow. The graphic language and depictions of sexuality help to develop the quality of the novel and the characters involved. The novel also brings awareness to bullying involving the LGBTQ community, which is a major social issue. “Sex and religion? Those two don’t really go hand in hand,” commented by a freshmen student from UF. Like this student, numerous people around the world believe this misconception to be true. Whether people argue for or against the importance of sex in religion, more than just what goes on the bedroom has been heating up lately. Many debates have sparked due to the negative connotation associated with sex when confronted about its position in religious cultures. A study done had proven a direct relationship between religiosity and sexual attitudes in college student, but to what extent are their spiritual values influential in their sexual beliefs and what are the reasons behind this (Beckwith, n.pg.). Either way, there is to some extent an influence on sexual behavior, whether it is by gender, ethnicity, or religion. After extensive research and several interviews, I’m determined to find the truth about sex and its importance in religious cultures, its effects on spirituality, and the roles it plays in religion.

The movie Psycho, is one of the most influential movie in Cinema history to date. The director Alfred Hitchcock, wanted to test many of the conventions of movie making that was common at that time. Alfred Hitchcock movie broke many cultural taboos and challenged the censors. Alfred Hitchcock showed a whole bunch of at the time absurd scene, for example: Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) dying naked while taking a shower, Norman Bates with split personality disorder, and the first ever flushing toilet shown in a movie. Because from the late 1920's to the late 1950's, movies were made usually go around the story, and usually with a lot dialogue. This movie gives the audience an experience that was much more emotional and intuitive. The viewers were caught up in a roller coaster of shock, surprise and suspense based on image, editing and sound.

Perkins also points out that since more abstinence-only programs have been introduced, "teen-age pregnancies, abortions, and births have fallen. The Imitation Game is a phenomenal film that takes place during World War II in 1952, which won Oscar for best writing-adapted screenplay. It serves as a tribute to the life of Alan Turing, a great mathematician who worked with fellow mathematicians through the British Intelligence MI6 agency to crack the Enigma Code. That’s not all there is though, this story brings you a profoundly odd man who has many secrets who is supposed to be solving the secret code to stop the war. When looking at this movie through the lens of social conflict, we can analyze how society is an arena of conflict as well as change that looks at how the individual is affected. So in this case we can look how the main themes: sex & sexuality, deviance, along with gender causes conflict in Alan Turing’s life as well as other supporting characters.
These questions arise from our own desires as Christians to reflect a biblically sound attitude towards sexuality and relationships. That same desire to act according to biblical scriptures is subject to opposition from today’s culture and views about sexual relationships, gender, and roles. A new definition of marriage, sexual orientation, and sexual practices is challenging our relationship with God and our view of human sexuality. Bishop John Spong defines sex and its impact on relationships: “Sex can be called at once the greatest gift to humanity and the greatest enigma of our lives. It is a gift in that is a singular joy for all beings and enigma in its destructive potential for people and their relationships.” (Spong, 1988)
