In short, media plays a huge role in our lives and people rely on them for a lot of different reasons to benefit them by keeping up with the latest current affairs, local neighborhoods to avoid, traffic jams on major highway informing you to take an alternate route. Furthermore, we rely on mass communication for natural disasters reporting such as hurricanes and tornadoes in which gives us a chance to seek cover. Therefore, since media has the power to influence a large group of people there must be some ethical accountability in the process (Neher, W. W. Therefore, since they have the power to impact we through mass communication there must be guidelines set in place in which is call ethical accountability. In fact, in my research I learned that, “Whenever people or group of people have power to influence the lives of others, ethical obligations arise” (Neher, W. W. Sandin, P.J., 2007, p. 198). In today’s society, media communication is transmitted through mass communication and it’s one-way in opposite to face to face conversation (Neher, W., & Sandin, P. J, 2007, p. 200). In short, mass communication is defined as, “the term mass communication refers to mediated communication that is sent to mass audiences. Furthermore, in my research there are some minorities who believes there are stereotypes in media reporting. The minority in low income communities feels this coverage serves as an injustice because it can create an impression or give images with ethical consequences (Neher, W., & Sandin, P. J, 2007, p. 209). The minorities feel this raise a question of communication ethics that intentionally communicates a message that has affects on other people in which they are judged and other see them as harmful (Neher, W. W. Sandin, P.J., 2007, p. 210). Therefore, the minorities parents feels that media plays an important role in the development of their kids as they see actors of their races be displayed in a positive way. The majority of children role models are characters on television. Therefore, since the world is of different races; a television and movie character needs to be a variety. “Research suggests that racial and ethnic micro cultures show Latino and African Americans watch more television and go to the movies more than European Americans (Orbe & Harris, 2008, p. 219). Furthermore, the media reports local breaking news reporting of a gang shooting, most people automatic thinks the people involve are minorities.
