Every country is home to their religions that define who they are and impacts different things such as the economy. Whether positive or negative it can define the country as whole and be the deciding rate of where the country falls in the lines of religious views, money, and a few other things. religion plays a big part in any country and can make or break a country. Three countries economies immensely affected by the religion are Thailand, Indonesia and Brunei. Thailand, or as its known as “land of the free” is a very peaceful, individualistic country.

Many people have their own beliefs, religion causes us to follow one that one religion that we think is right. Society in the United States allows for religions to respectfully practice what they believe or believe, which is ironic since some countries don't allow their people to pick the religion they wish to follow. However, religion affects culture in positive ways, there are also negative ways as well. Given that our country has so much freedom and beliefs to follow, that can cause for usual conflict. This socio-historical situation is fitting for a work that seeks to illuminate and elucidate the discursive tradition of Theravada Buddhism in Thailand.
