Jackie Robinson, a famous black baseball player, proved to the world that just because you have a different skin color does not mean that you aren’t as good as someone with a different color skin. Jackie was the first black man to ever sign with and play for a team that was a part of the all-white major league baseball organization. He along with Branch Rickey, the manager of the dodgers who signed Robinson, broke the color barrier in baseball and led the way for other talented Negro ball players to get into the majors. He left the team after his first season never to return to football again and I just so happened he left Hawaii on December 5, 1941. Yes he left Hawaii two days before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Was it planned like that, no I don’t think so. I think it was just luck that he decided to leave on that particular day despite the coming events. After he got back to the states and heard the news about Pearl Harbor he was drafted into the army and left Pasadena to go to boot camp. There he saw a sign about going through officer school to become an officer so he applied but his application was never accepted. He talked to the Negro officer that was head of his troop and he pulled some string for Jackie and come to find out Jackie’s application had never ever been looked at. After his application was finally considered he was accepted into the officers school and graduated an officer. Jackie, during all this time, had been nursing a bad ankle, and on his way to a medical facility in a bus one of his fellow officer’s wife was sitting next to him and she was rather white compared to Jackie so the bus driver told Jackie to move to the back of the bus, which he …show more content…

He was granted his honorable discharge and on his way out of camp with his stuff he passed by the Negro baseball team for the army. One of the balls they were playing with landed by them and when he threw it back to them the manager of the team noticed how good of an arm that Jackie had. As Jackie walked by the manager, the manager walked over to him and he and Jackie started talking. To sum up the base of their conversation Jackie ended up with getting a chance to play with a professional Negro league team the Kansas City Monarchs. Jackie tried out for them and was signed in
