The resurrection of Jesus Christ is one of the most widely known miracles in the modern world. However, this is only proven through the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and Jon. If someone were to think of the resurrection of Jesus from a naturalist point of view then the words of these apostles would not necessarily hold true. For instance the rate at which a body starts to decompose is pretty quick yet in the yet when in the tombs there were no flies or insects surrounding the linen in the tomb. Taking this to a biblical point of view it is evident that in each of the gospels the apostle’s accounts of Jesus resurrection are slightly biased towards the events that happened. For instance in the book Matthew Mary and Mary Magdalene are written to have gone to the tomb yet in the book of John it is just Mary Magdalene and then later Peter and another disciple. The events of Jesus resurrection could have only happened one way so why is it that the recollections of that day are so different? I intend to debate the question as to whether the bodily resurrection of Jesus was in fact true or just a contest of faith by his disciples comes into question.
Given the conditions of the surroundings that a body is laid to rest in the rate of decomposition can vary greatly. Now given that the place in which Jesus was buried was very hot and humid it can be safely said that after his body was placed in the tomb it began to decay since the body starts decaying around the time that his heart stopped beating. Now during the initial stages of decay several things begin to happen in the body. Although the body appears fresh from the outside, the bacteria that are normally inside the intestines of a living person begin to feed on the contents of the intestine and the intestine itself. Eventually these bacteria break out into the body cavity and start to digest other organs. Since the intestine is no longer intact, the body's digestive enzymes leak out and spread through the body helping to break down more organs and tissues. At the same time, enzymes inside individual cells leak out and digest the cell and its connections with other cells. Another factor that is from the moment of death flies are attracted to the smell of the decomposing body.

The Gospel of Matthew is an eyewitness story written for an audience of believers, under great stress, and persecution. Matthew develops a theological plot incorporating genealogy, speeches, parables, inter and intra textual references, common vocabulary, and fulfillment quotations, with a tension that builds as we are invited into the story. The most common ancient Egyptian burial practice is the mummification process as depicted in source B. Mummification is a ritual that embalmers performed when a pharaoh died. Source B is a photograph of the canoptic jars which are a main component of the mummification process. The first step in the mummification process is the removal and preservation of most of the internal organs, such as the lungs, the stomach, the liver and intestines. These organs are then separately embalmed and placed into canoptic jars as source B reveals. These jars were often decorated with one of the four animal-headed sons of the god Horus. Each head is believed to be the protector of each organ within the jar and is dedicated to a specific deity. The preservation of the organs is significant as they allowed the dead person to breathe and eat in the afterlife. The internal organs were then wrapped and put into either the body or put in boxes instead of sitting in jars. Canoptic jars were still placed in the tomb but they were solid or empty and provided a symbolic purpose. In Tutankhamun’s tomb the canoptic jars were discovered in a shrine that was found in the treasury room of the tomb. Source B is useful is when understanding the mummification process.
In the gospels of Mark and John, both showed a vivid portrait of Jesus in their writing. Mark’s gospel describes much more of Jesus' life, miracles, and parables as suffering servant. However, John’s gospel was written to convince people to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. Nonetheless, both John and Mark present many of the crucial events of Jesus' life, including his trial, crucifixion, and resurrection.

In light of these facts, there are still many theories other than that of the Biblical account. Three of them include the "Visionary" theory, the theft theory, and the wrong tomb theory. The first theory is that of Strauss, that the appearances of Jesus after His death on the cross were "visions generated by the imaginations of the disciples (Ramsey 48)." This may be the easiest of all the theories to discredit. First of all, it does not take into account the inability of the disciples to grasp this idea that Christ was alive and to recognize Him for who He was (Ramsey 48).

The Synoptic Gospels give differing accounts about the resurrection of Jesus, however each is telling the same story. They state these same things: a group of women walked to the tomb, the stone was removed from in front of the tomb, a being told of Jesus' resurrection and the women were instructed to or told the disciples about the resurrection. The author of each gospel may have been writing for a specific audience and had specific purpose for their writings. Although, that can never be proven, there is no doubt that the gospels have stood the test of time and will continue to unless the words are proven false.
