It is very troubling to hear that 1 in 5 women in University will be victims of sexual assault, and even more so that less than 60% of cases get reported. The purpose of my paper is to put emphasis on how important it is that more people be informed about rape culture, but to also explain how men are just as important in working towards prevention as are women.

If you would ask yourself if rape was okay, your answer would more than likely be no… but then why is it that our society suppresses our knowledge on sexual violence while also sometimes portraying the image that the woman is to blame? It is not morally okay to do that to someone, nor is it okay that our society allows us to pass the blame onto the victims. There is so much wrong with that. Since the age of 13, this has been a very touchy subject for me. Being a victim of sexual assault is not only degrading, but also extremely traumatizing. Through a lot of time, some bad coping mechanisms, and therapy… you find a way to let go and move on. But you don’t ever fully recover. Over 8 years later, there are still less than a handful of people who know about what happened. It’s one of the hardest things to talk about, not only because it’s extremely personal and very few are able to relate, but also because it isn’t a topic most are comfortable with… Which often leads myself to wondering why that is? Perhaps a lot of people are in the dark about it, maybe it’s because of insensitive and disrespectful rape jokes, maybe because women are constantly being put to blame; while at the same time held responsible for prevention, and etc. How can we help make people more informed thus resulting in it being socially acceptable to talk about, while also looking for a solution that might...

...o no wonder we’re in fear of men. When working towards an end to this, both men and women need to work together because it is an issue that extremely negatively affects both sexes, and only together can change happen.

In conclusion, I believe that there should be more informative campaigns in all high schools, universities, and elsewhere on rape prevention. Working on prevention isn’t simply stating that women need to acknowledge that rape happens everywhere, and to act accordingly to keep yourself safe, but also to have both and women actually working at protecting and keeping women safe. True, legitimate awareness on rape is what I believe is the most important step in lowering the percentage of sexual assault across the world. Awareness also gets people talking, which might just give those who are suffering some courage. And that is certainly worth fighting for.

We consider ourselves fortunate if we have the opportunity to go to college because most people cannot afford to do so; either they lack motivation or they lack money. Rape Culture and Victim Blaming Essays

- To find rape culture in today’s society all you need to do is look to the radio. The definition of rape is forced sexual intercourse, meaning unconsented vaginal, oral or anal penetration (“Who Are the Victims?”).
