During the Behavioral Interview
During the interview, if you are not sure how to answer the question, ask for clarification. Then be sure to include these points in your answer:
• A specific situation
• The tasks that needed to be done
• The action you took
• The results i.e. what happened
It 's important to keep in mind that there are no right or wrong answers. The interviewer is simply trying to understand how you behaved in a given situation. How you respond will determine if there is a fit between your skills and the position the company is seeking to fill. We are seeing movement away from interviewers using the standard "50 most asked questions by college recruiters" to behavioral or situational questions. Employers feel they can better gauge a candidate 's fit for the position from hearing the responses it the behavioral/situational interview questions. The rationale for this type of interviewing is that past performance may be the best predictor of future performance, i.e., success on the job. This essay is going to analyse and evaluate an interview between a service user (actor) and a social worker (myself) in regards to the use of communication skills and the theoretical framework that underpins those skills. For my psychology interview assignment, I had the privilege of interviewing Elaine, who is the Director of Preschool X, which is an educational institution. She reports that she has been in this position for 13 years since its inception. Elaine is a close friend of my aunt, which was how I was able to meet her. She explained that her responsibilities include; the hiring of all personnel related to the school, submission of criminal background checks, the medical reports for all staff and children must be current, and also developed a curriculum for the teachers to execute. She has parent meetings and she deals with parents on a daily basis. For any arising issues, Elaine conferences with parents at least once or twice a week.
