The Dominican Republic is a country appealing to the Haitians, because that is the nearest to them and can have better quality of life. But, in recent years we have seen a massive immigration from Haiti to Dominican Republic. These leads us to ask, what are the reasons which the people of Haiti are fleeing their country. These factors are: to escape of the poverty, deficiency of basic services and lack of jobs. The government has very little staff and is not properly trained have very limited resources, coming mostly from the outside. The people that were living in what is now Alaska went through cultural change when the Russians entered the area with their new language and orthodox religion. More recently, the people of Miami have gone through cultural changes since the Cubans have entered Southern Florida. To understand the migration of Cubans to Southern Florida, one must be familiar with the history of Cuban migration, immigration policies, and their implications.

The Dominican Republic is a Caribbean country that shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti. It is the second largest Caribbean island with a size of 18,704 square miles and a population of 10 million. Its economic mainstay is tourism. Christopher Columbus first arrived on the Western area of Hispaniola; which is now Haiti, on December 1492. The Dominican Republic gained its independence in February 27, 1844 after defeating Haiti in the Dominican War of Independence.
As a Haitian immigrant, my parents and I would spend our family vacations in our hometown of Port-au- Prince, Haiti. I would enjoy participating in family activities such as card games, cooking, and just the quality time that we spent together. We could play these games and laugh amongst each other for hours, without a care in the world merely telling jokes and listening to the elder parables. Amongst my family I felt untouchable. Like a tree in the wind, my only cares were that of the breeze and the beauty of my foundation. In the sway of the wind I was overcome with a sense of peace.

While in America most people are able use stoves or microwaves to prepare food quickly. People in Haiti don’t bathe as much as people in America because they don’t have access to clean or running water. However, In America people are able to bathe every day. In America people often eat 3 meals a day which is breakfast, lunch and dinner. In Haiti they only eat 2 meals a day. Why are these background informations useful? Because these informations provide us some important basic knowledges of Haiti. As a country mainly composed of ex-slaves, Haiti is mainly composed of people of African origin. However, why is Haiti so poor compared to its other black majority neighbors such as Saint Kitts and Neves and Barbados? Because Haiti did not attain its independence through peaceful means. The Dominican Republic is a nation located in the Caribbean Sea and shares the land with Haiti, and the whole island is called Hispaniola as it was named when Christopher Columbus discovered it during his first voyage in the year 1492. The country has proved to be one of the leading Caribbean countries with accessible healthcare to its citizens and even expats. However, the country has a multinational population with low-to-medium incomes and multi-level access to healthcare based on income. Despite this, improvements to healthcare system can lead to better medical outcomes to all the citizens and even to the suffering citizens of the Haiti. Because the Dominican Republic is an immediate neighbor to struggling Haiti, it is the moral obligation of the Dominican to provide Haitians with access to healthcare.
The Dominican Republic (DR) is a small country in the caribbean on an island that is shared by Haiti. The DR attracts tourism and is a lovely place to be, however, it is infected with the plague known as drug trafficking. This issue has led to many attacks such as Francina Hungria, a thirty-one year old who was doing errands before work when she was jumped by two complete strangers. She says that; “it is all tied to the fact that so many people have access to firearms, and there is no control. And the fact that there are so many drugs right now going into the country… it is a mess what we are living these days” (Planas).

LifeLine Community Healthcare Program provided loans for Ruth and Tage to expand their clinic and promote health services. The main objectives of this program were to teach people ways to prevent diseases, to maintain a health diet and good hygiene, to treat common diseases, and to assist women in starting a small business to support their children for education. Families with extremely low income were able to get reduced charge for health services. This ensured that women and children have adequate access to healthcare, which is an important aspect of empowering the next generation. Partnering with LifeLine Network had provided Ruth and her family with great resources in reducing maternal and child health in the community and taking a step closer to achieve the fifth Millennium Development Goal. Although this program has significantly reduced maternal and child mortality, further developments and solutions are needed in order to promote good health for the overall society and improve socioeconomic status of
