Before I attended The Congress of Future Scientists and Technologists in Boston, I had heard a lot about the inventor of the Segway, Dean Kamen. In June, I finally met him and got the wonderful opportunity to hear from him at The Congress. The Segway is one of the new technologies made by one of today 's most brilliant inventors and is now considered one of the most popular personal vehicles all around the world. What was once a mysterious, strange and different invention by Dean Kamen, the Segway Human Transporter now has everyone excited as the first self-balancing, electric-powered transportation machine. The Segway Human Transporter is a personal transporter that uses gyroscopes or basically five disks mounted to spin rapidly in any direction on an axis freely. The orientation of the axis is not affected by tilting and movement of the mounting; so gyroscopes are also used as stability or maintain a reference direction in navigation systems, automatic pilots, and stabilizers.
The Segway HT’s sensors detect whether the Segway and rider are leaning forward or backward. The Segway HT then immediately conveys its wheels to roll forward or backward as much as it can to stay upright. When you ride the Segway HT, you slightly and gently lean forward to make it go forward, you center your weight over the wheels to remain stationary, and you gently lean back to make it go backward. With practice, you can easily learn how to move forward and backward, turn and stop. Even with its balancing ability, the Segway HT, isn’t perfect and can also slip, trip, and tip over. To reduce risk of injury, you must avoid slips, trips, and tips.

Riding a Segway requires very little physical effort. Unfortunately, according to Dr. Mary Pat McKay, “...
