Ageing is a natural process, which presents a unique challenge for all sections of the society. With gradual improvement in health-care delivery services, people in the UK are living longer, but not necessarily healthier lives. As a result, the number of people who require care in their old age is increasing dramatically. There are currently three million people over 80, and this number is expected to almost double by 2030. There are also an increasing number of elderly people living on their own, increasing the demand for specific elderly care.
Due to Queenie’s ulcers in both her legs, she has been finding it exceptionally hard to get around. She is a woman, who has lived most of her life alone after her husband’s death, and has always been independent. Ageing is a natural process that starts as soon as a child is born and ends when a person dies. In fact, it is a major problem in the United Kingdom. The population of people over the age of 60 in the United Kingdom were more than under 16 in 2001. As the population of the elderly is growing, it introduces more challenges that the general public has to adapt to in the future.
Taking care of the individuals that are getting older takes many different needs. Most of these needs cannot be given from the help of a family. This causes the need of having to put your love one into a home and causing for the worry of how they will be treated. It is important for the family and also the soon to be client to feel at home in their new environment. This has been an issue with the care being provided for each individual, which has lead to the need of making sure individuals have their own health care plan.

Aging is universal and it is a process that everyone has to go through. The only difference is that everyone goes through this process at their own pace influenced by factors that will be discussed later on in this paper. When we think about factors that have an influence on older adults and how their life may be affected, we must consider the different social institutions while analyzing influences from social factors, cultural factors, and personal values. Abuse to older adults, stereotyping and informal care and technological advancements that affect older adults are the three topics that will be discussed in this reflection. Furthermore, will connect the three topics I have chosen to the knowledge that I have gained from my interaction
In a review of Making Grey Gold, which is a compelling evaluation of nursing home caregiving, the reading seem more like a revelation into the unknown world of the aged and/or disabled, and not just another book. Moreover, the beginnings of the book set the stage for a real life sequence unfolding in each sentence, and each chapter to the very end. The effectiveness of the book may bring current policies for nursing home care and procedures into question; however the book is more appropriate for adults considering nursing homes as an option, adult children in charge of their parents care and the staff that are employed or pending employment in such an institution.

developed six main assumptions of adult learners. Those assumptions are the need to know, self- concept, experience, readiness to learn, orientation to learning and motivation. (McEwen and Wills, 2014) Need to know: The care takers need to know why they have to learn about something before undertaking to learn it. Knowles added a few aspects to the need to know (a) need to know how learning will be conducted, (b) what learning will occur and (c) why the learning is important (Knowles, Holton and Swanson 1998).The teaching should focus from known to unknown and assess what they already know. This principle applies to this study because assessing the knowledge of the caregiver will help the educator or the provider will get an idea what they know or what they don’t.
As a Gerontology minor student, I have learned the importance of helping older adults with their daily activities. It is also a proven fact that the burden of becoming a caregiver for an elderly, and taking care of a loved one full or even part time, nearly always becomes the responsibility of the family of elderly. Based on my research, I have found out how a Geriatric Counselor can provide assistance to older adults and their families with issues related to the aging process The help that can be received from a Geriatric Counselor can often make the lives of older adults and their families much easier by reducing the burden, and providing convenient, comfort, and ultimately a better quality of life for those in the later years of their lives.
"Who does a son turn to, when his 78 year-old mother, newly admitted to a nursing home’s rehab unit, is experiencing delusions and screams through the night? Or where does a daughter turn to for help when she notices a rapid decline in her mother’s health and her mother refuses to seek medical care? Or the gentleman who believes it is time to a continuing care retirement community, but has no one to advise him on the myriad of financial and lifestyle implications of such a move? (Lederman, 2012)." Within in the field of home health care, ecological system creates an outline for defining what it means to provide quality care to the elderly.
To show compassionate to someone’s family or the elderly, one must have to take their own needs out of the equation. Put the focus and energy on families and elderlies, be selfless, and prevent any distractions or personal goals as long as you are committed to their needs. The only way people who are younger can offer an easy passage for the old is to show love, compassion, kindness and accept the fact that ageing brings with it unimaginable fears. As our parents’ journey through life continues, they become more needy and often ask more of their adult children. If time and health allow, adult children caring for their older loved-ones could find themselves in the same place as their parents one day. Empathy and compassion go a long way; and remember not to take the time that you have left together for
This posting is about the elderly and their reminiscence of their own life. Throughout the post, I will discuss some of the difficulties I have experienced in providing care for the elderly. Furthermore, I will describe my own thoughts and feelings about the required video and what changes I will include in my nursing practice after watching the video.
As a parent, you probably think about how to raise happy, well-adjusted children. Many books, articles, and journals describe ways to fulfill your child’s every need and want…but what about your parents?
