One topic constantly blares on the news when the TV is turned on: gun control. Gun control is the regulation of selling, owning, and using guns. Although our right to bear firearms is protected by our Second Amendment, gun control has come under fire recently due to mass shootings at places such as Sandy Hook Elementary and Umpqua Community College. People argue that guns should be illegal since they are easy to obtain, which leads to countless shootings and deaths, while others argue that guns should be legal since the Second Amendment gives the right for protection. The best way to deal with this dilemma would be a median of both sides; make guns legal, but have very tight restrictions to obtain them. Strict gun control laws will lead to fewer murders and fewer guns circulating.
One side argues that guns should be illegal and not available for the public. Supporters on this side say that without guns in our system, less homicides will happen and shooters will have a harder time finding weapons to use. This perspective does deliver a thought-provoking fight; according to chicagotribune.com, from January 1st, 2015- October 8, 2015, over 2,360 people were victims of shooting in Chicago and in an article from CNN.com, in Australia, a country where guns are banned, the risk of being killed by a gunshot has dropped over 50% since a tight gun control laws were established. On Washingtonpost.com, a Gallop Poll was done and showed that 51% of people felt safer in homes with a gun. If guns became banned, the percentage would drop, and criminals, like rapists or burglars would have more motivation to commit crimes. In Australia, a...

...ngs. Although the statement is true, tighter gun laws can potentially help fix issues that will be easily seen with a meticulous gun license process, which could not have been seen with the old system. By the whole country conforming to a tighter gun control system, the death rate will hopefully decrease.
The topic of control is a complicated subject because each individual is entitled to their own viewpoints. People argue that a complete ban on guns is the best choice, while others argue that our current system is good enough. The best possible solution is a median of the two sides which includes laws with tighter gun restrictions. The tighter gun restrictions would not only give America a chance to lower the death rate, but also gives America a chance to become to a nation where the citizens do not have to hear about shootings and killings on the news everyday.

Essay Gun Control Laws Should Be Legal

- There are currently 88 guns for every 100 people living in the United States. That is not even counting the numerous illegal weapons that our government could not account for. We have so many guns in this country and very few laws on who can own them. With this in mind, it is easy to see how simple it is for guns to get into the wrong hands of criminals and mentally ill and cause harm. I feel that guns cause a lot more harm than good and there should be more gun control laws. There should be more gun control laws because guns are rarely used for self-defense, there would not be as many guns for criminals to steal, and there would be a reduced number of gun deaths....   [tags: Gun politics in the United States, Firearm]
