Without adjustments or changes to what we knew as the normal, our country would not be where it is at. In order to create something greater than what there is, we should be willing to take risks. Sure, there will be adjustments and accommodations to be made, but that part of accepting change. With time comes growth, and with growth comes innovations. If past generations would have been scared of the unknown, we would still be stuck in the old age. Lately, a very delicate technique has been a topic of deliberation. That procedure goes by the name of genetic engineering or genetic modification, and it is a technique that can be used to improve the health and lives of many around the world. I believe that Genetic Engineering, if used for the right purpose, is a good thing.
Genetic Engineering is defined as the deliberate modification of the characteristics of an organism by manipulating its genetic material. It involves the transferring of specific traits, also called genes, from one organism to another to modify the organism 's genetic composition. That organism can be a plant, animal, or recently included to the list, human beings. One of the potential functions of genetic engineering involves the treatment of human genetic disorders. According to Medical scientists, there are about three-thousand disorders that appear due to errors in an individual 's deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA. These disorders result from the loss or change of a single nitrogen base in a DNA molecule. Genetic Engineering is used in Human Gene Therapy, HGT, a procedure that allows scientists to add corrected copies of genes, to individuals who have a shortage of a particular gene. If the corrected gene functions properly, the disorder can be cured. In his anal...

...there is many different types of treatment medical scientists can do using genetic engineering, and there will be many more to come.
In conclusion, I hope that you are able to see the benefits of genetic engineering. I believe you should do some research before you create your own opinion on this subject. I understand that it may sound scary to some because it 's a concept they might have not heard of. Once upon of time the use of X-rays was unheard of, and that concept might have been unbelievable or terrifying for some, but now it is commonly used for the benefits of others. Regardless, genetic engineering is not stopping now, it is only getting greater. We should just accept the fact that it is and will continue to be used. Before we know it will be a commonly used method for the benefits of others, and there will be another extraordinary concept zooming around.

Essay on Genetic Engineering: A Good Thing?

- Today there are many definitions of Genetic Engineering, such as “Genetic Engineering is a laboratory technique used by scientists to change the DNA of living organisms” (Kowalski) and “Genetic Engineering refers to the modification or manipulation of a living organism’s genes” (Genetic). No matter the wording all definitions of genetic engineering refers to somehow changing an organism’s genetic identity. Many people today support genetic engineering because it has many potential benefits for today's society; however, it also has many potential threats associated with it....   [tags: argumentative, persuasive, informative]

I Believe Cloning Is a Good Thing Essay

- Have you not ever wondered why cloning is a good thing. Cloning helps the world out more then it hurts it. All cloning should be legal worldwide. A few reasons why cloning should be legal is because you can cure diseases by cloning (Jefferis 21). Cloning can also make organs that used by a real human being (Jefferis 23). By cloning, you can also have animals produce proteins or drugs (“Why Clone”). First, Cloning is a good thing because you can pharm for drugs (“Why Clone”). When you pharm for medicine you can make drugs that cure diseases, like malaria....   [tags: genetic engineering]

Is Genetic Engineering Superior or Appalling? Essay

- Genetic engineering has changed a lot through the years. It is now possible not to only be able to genetically engineer just plants but also animals and people, plants especially. There are many different kind of plants that have been genetically modified. Genetic engineering is not all good but it is also not all bad. Genetic Engineering will come together the more you read. Plants are not the only thing getting bigger because of genetic engineering modifying the sizes. Animals are starting to become a bigger part of genetic engineering....   [tags: genetic plants, polar tree, genetic engineering]

Genetic Engineering: A Major Advancement for Mankind Essay

- As the Biochemist Isaac Asimov once said, "The advancement of Genetic Engineering makes it quite conceivable that we will design our own evolutionary progress.” Scientists have always thought about new ways to progress through technology in our era, and in 1946, scientists discover that Genetic material from different viruses can be combined to form a new type of virus. This was a major discovery that trickles down to the modern era of Genetics. Current scientists have pioneered new ways to decode human DNA, beating the $3 billion government-run Genome project to its goal....   [tags: Genetic Engineering]

Genetic Engineering Is Not Safe Essay

- Genetic engineering is the intended modification to an organism’s genetic makeup. There have been no continuing studies on this topic or action so there is no telling whether or not it is harmless. Genetic engineering is not safe because scientists have no absolute knowledge about living systems. Given that, they are unable to do DNA surgery without creating mutations. Any interference on an organism’s genetic makeup can cause permanent damage, hereditary defects, lack of nutritious food, or a spread of dangerous diseases....   [tags: Genetic Engineering Essays]

Essay on The Benefits of Genetic Engineering

- Many people are envied or deprecated because of certain traits they are born with. Those that are envied are a select few, which in turn is why they are envied. Genetic Engineering: Playing God Essay

- Regenerating extinct species, engineering babies that are born without vital body organs, this is what the use of genetic engineering brings to the world. “In Greek myth, an chimera was a part lion, part goat, part dragon that lived in Lycia; in real life, it’s an animal customized with genes of different species. In reality, it could be a human-animal mixture that could result in horror for the scientific community. In myth the chimera was taken down by the warrior Bellerophon, the biotech version faces platoons of lawyers, bioethicists, and biologists” (Hager)....   [tags: Genetic Engineering Essays]
