The older generation has taught the newer generation many lessons, ranging from basic education to social conduct. However, the newer generation also has many lessons to teach the older generation, such as open mindedness, freedom of thought, perseverance, and enjoying life. These lessons, while having both positive and negative effects, have become essential to the modern world.
One lesson that my generation has learned, is to be open minded. The people of the older generations are more close minded and tend to think that people must fall into a certain category within society. The newest generation are looked down upon because they have different values and most of their actions are viewed as outrageous, which at times the actions can be. This has led to people to actually hate their own generation. So, the new generation has been under the judging eyes of not only their elders but their peers. This pressure has led to the new generation gaining an intense ability to preserve even under scrutiny. The older generation has had times where they too have had to deal with hard time, but the difference is those scrutinizing. The older generation had to go through many hardships and did not have time for fun or adventures. Those times of war, famine, and prejudice are over, the fruits of their labors have been passed to the younger ones. The new generation have time to act childish and spend times with their friends. I believe that this needs to be taught to the older people, so that they may pass their times of hardships and live to lead happier lives. All this lesson takes is enjoying the little things, a simple smile or a moment that makes one’s heart burst with joy. After all, life is full of happiness to battle the times of sadness.
