As you know, not all of the motivators apply to you so it's critical to understand what perceptions older generations have about Millennials, and how to distance yourself from those that don't relate to you. In turn, it's also important to take into consideration what perceptions you might have of older generations.
Prior to pursuing my passion for coaching university students, I spent over 20 years recruiting and hiring over 2,500 individuals from all levels of the organization.

Boomer’s see millennial’s as having a short attention span which is not what millennial’s intend. If they don’t see a job working out, they are faster to jump ship than Boomer’s and that fearless attitude actually leverages them more power with their company. Sherry Buffington, co-author of Exciting Oz: How the New American Workforce Is Changing the Face of Business Forever and What Companies Must Do to Thrive, says that they have the upper hand because they are perfectly fine working dozens of different jobs in their lifetime. “In a survey conducted by IdeaPaint of 600 employed Millennials, 49 percent believe that poor management is dragging their company down; 45 percent attribute that to the lack or misuse of technology solutions.” (Avallon) This helps the reader to better understand the mentality of millennial’s. They are typically more tech savvy then their older bosses and feel they could make more of an impact if they were in charge. Millennial’s are hard-wired to think that time really is their most important resource. If they feel they aren’t being treated completely fair then they won’t hesitate about trying to find a new

The author shows how coaching differs from counseling. To start with, Collins supposes that counseling focuses on negative psychology that includes dealing with conflicts, spiritual struggles, and emotional matters like depression, while coaching focuses on improving team-building and performance, career growth and finding fulfillment (2009). According Collins, counseling fixes what is wrong, while coaching enables individuals to reach their goals. Coaching is centered on the present and future likelihood, getting unstuck and attaining the set goals, while counseling is centered on causes of the problems that are as a result of the past, and attaining healing and stability.
Analyzing career theory is an important task, not only as an individual but also on a large scale. If everyone has the career they are best at and enjoy above all others, the world would be a much happier place. Imagine a world where each individual viewed work as not something they have to do, but as something they want to do. Productivity would increase at all levels. Charitable foundations and businesses would be abundant. Whereas this ideal may not be fathomable at this point, if each person used this information, it would be only a matter of time before we are moving in that harmonious direction.
Workers are often pitted against each other in the work place as a form of competition. One division that is commonly seen is gender and race, but there is also a divide concerning age that isn’t discussed as frequently. Baby Boomers are those who was born between 1946-1964, when WWII soldiers came back home, settled down and started the “Baby Boom”. While Millennials are those born around 1981-2000, and have a similar population size as Baby Boomers. In the workplace, Millennials are categorized as being bad workers due to how they were raised in sheltered lifestyles and require a different environment than the previous generation, but that is not accurate. Even though the two generations view work different, sometimes to the point of conflict,

A proper coaching philosophy contains principles which improve character development, teach step by step tactical and technical skills, form proper progressive physical training regimens, and carefully utilize team management to handle and control problems with administrative issues. A coach with a sound philosophy should mold a team with strong cohesion, and he should treat players not only as teammates, but as family and friends who are encouraged to develop communication and lifelong learning of skills through positive support and role modeling from the coach (Mergelsberg, 14-15). The philosophy should also contain written documents of implemented strategies and techniques, so that the coach will know what to improve upon season by season

Seeking the services of a career counselor can provide many benefits. One can gain a deeper understanding of him/herself, gain information on education and careers, gain sills in decision-making, gain support in conducting a job search or applying to higher education, and gain support coping with career transitions (NCDA, “Why Seek Career Counseling, 2007). This is a course run by the Coaching Academy and it teaches the following variation of the GROW model: Motivation, Assertiveness, Goal achievement, Initiative and Confident communication. This variation of coaching is focused more towards young people, and would therefore fit with my aspirations for the future. I would also be interested in attending a basic level course in NLP, as I believe this particular method will also benefit my coaching with young people.

Choosing a career can be an overwhelming experience, one may be plagued with concerns over making the incorrect career choice, being stuck in a certain field, or splurging on the incorrect major in college. While one has to make that decision on their own, there are certain tools that could help someone make that choice. One tool is career theories. There are many different theories on career choice and development, and they each have valid points. However, the two theories that I found resonated the most with my own experiences of occupational choice and development are Rhoes theories, and Super’s theory. Rhoe’s theory suggests that there is a strong correlation between a person’s childhood experiences, and how to they choose
