Fools Rush In is a romantic comedy dealing with interpersonal communication between Isabel and Alex. When these two first met each other it was at a restaurant. From the beginning, there were obvious signs of flirting. As the night went on, Isabel ended up going to Alex’s home. Waking up in his arms, she quickly scrambled her things and left only to return three months later to tell Alex she is pregnant with his baby. This movie is a perfect example of a relationship between two people. In a relationship there is a time where the two discloses information about one another, have mixed emotions, and other interpersonal concepts. Fools Rush In has many examples of first impressions, self-concepts, conflict, identity needs, stages of relationship development, and stereotypes. The first stage of development happened when Isabel and Alex met each other at the restaurant, this stage can be referred to as the initiation stage. Isabel really had to use the restroom so she asked Alex could she get in front of him. While they were waiting for a restroom to be available, it is obvious that they were flirting with each other. The next stage is a mixture between experimenting and intensifying. They both took interest with each other and decided to go to Alex’s home. After that one night, their relationship was terminated due to the fact that Isabel wanted to return to her normal life. However, they integrated and bonded with each other once Isabel came back to tell Alex that she was pregnant. On the ride home to her parent’s house for the first time, Isabel started to disclose personal information to Alex because she thought that it would be beneficial to him. Hearing this, she becomes upset and walks out on him. From this part on, the relationship falls and gets so bad that Isabel decides to file for divorce. In conclusion, Fools Rush In demonstrated a great amount of concepts from the book and online readings. The film, demonstrated the relationship stages from beginning to end. As in any relationship there is a first impression, disclosure, emotions, and conflict. It also proves that outside substances will and can affect a relationship. This film shows that life is indeed full of surprises and people must learn how to take them day by day. In the end, the couple ended up being happy together. After reading the online and book material, watching the film will give a clear and accurate example of all the concepts discussed.
