Philosophers started to argue about the existence of free will thousands of years ago. The idea is does free will really exists? Do humans have control over their actions, behaviors, choices, desires and emotions? Some philosophers believe that yes, humans have self-control over their actions, and others say that no, there is no such a thing as self-control. According to determinist there is no such thing self or ego, and everything is out of our control. Let’s say my friend went to restaurant to eat his lunch, but he did not decide what to order. He just thought to get a cheeseburger. While He was ordering a cheeseburger, he saw someone else having steak, and he changed his mind and ordered steak. What makes him change his mind? If we apply the concepts of determinist in real world, it doesn’t make sense that everything is already determined. Let’s say, two different people started the same business at the same time with the same capital. At the end of the day, a person who work hard might make more money than the other. I believe that good students who study hard can get a better grade than lazy students who do not study. If determinists were right all human being would become lazy. Nobody would want to work hard because everything is already determined whether they work hard or not. Remember it is already determined. Compatibilism combines both the philosophy of free will and the determinism. Compatibilism believe that humans are part of nature and thing that happen in our society have a big influence on us. The laws of nature and previous events also have a huge factor for what we are today, but our future depends on what we choose today. We have the right to choose between good and evil. For example, I love hotdog and burger equally, and someone offers me both of my favorite food at the same time. I choose burger, at the same if determinist philosopher were watching me and tell me that it is already determined you are going to eat burger, I can change my mind and get hotdog. General speaking everybody can change their mind many times as they need without any influence, but there is a thing that we cannot change like laws of natures. I believe that laws of nature, how our body works is already determined beyond our knowledge, but humans have freedom of choice.
