Positive ethics allows me to think through difficult situations that may arise and resolve ethical issues that may occur. Principal A is Beneficence and Nonmaleficence meaning psychologist will strive to benefit those whom they take care of and do no harm. By applying this principle into my decision-making process, I am implying I will respect all my client 's rights and dignity by not doing anything that invades their privacy or self-determinism. Aspirational ethics reach toward higher standards than those of mandatory ethics, requiring the counselor to possess a stronger sense of duty. These principles guide counselors to do more than simply meet the “letter of the law” of the ethics code. The welfare of the client becomes the main focus of the counselor, who takes into consideration not only the interventions, but also the effects on the client. (Kottler & Shepard, 2011) Aspirational ethics include, but are not limited to the following principles.

Additionally, like I mentioned in the beginning, in terms of beneficence, its principle stipulates that ethical theories should strive to achieve the greatest amount of good because people benefit from the most good. In respect for autonomy an ethical theory should allow people to reign over themselves and to be able to make decisions that apply to their lives. This means that people should have control over their lives as much as possible because they are the only people who completely understand their chosen type of lifestyle. The justice ethical principle states that ethical theories should prescribe actions that are fair to those involved. Due to this, code of ethics were put in place for the well being of these professionals and their clients so that in all act on each party’s behalf there will be some sort of

Strengths of the Ethical Decisions Making Model are Kitchener 's Critical Evaluation Model (1984), which involves understanding how ethical decision-making approaches play an important role in the ethical landscape of counseling. It involved the notions of loyalty, faithfulness, and honoring commitments (Kitchener, 1984). It’s best to form trust within the client/counselor relationship and implement faith in the growth of their therapeutic relationship. Kitchener (1984) proposes four goals to strength the model of increasing ethical sensitivity, improving ethical reasoning, developing ethical responsibility and tolerating ambiguity (Kitchener,
Many ethical dilemmas are philosophical in nature, an ethical issue can be described as a problem with no clear resolution. In order to solve the issue or dilemma a consensus between the parties involved must be reached. There are several reasons to come to an agreement over an ethical dilemma, it is the basis for all aspects of personal and professional dealings. Each one of us is part of a civilized society and as such it is our responsibility to be rational, honest and loyal in our dealings with others. Ethics in the counselling and psychotherapy protects the client and the therapist involved in the therapeutic relationship and the therapeutic process as a whole; with the concepts that act as a guide for the therapists in provision of good practice and care for the client. The framework is built on values of counselling and psychotherapy; principles of trustworthiness, autonomy, fidelity, justice, beneficence, non-maleficence and self-respect, and provides standards of good practice and care for the practitioner (BACP, 2010). Ethical framework contributes to the development of the therapeutic relationship and process by assisting therapist’s decisions, and guides their behaviour and proceedings within their legal rights and duties. The ethical frame is structured on the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship and the therapists should be aware of their categories and be responsible for their forms. Monitoring and being aware of what goes on in and out of the room physically, emotionally and psychologically is primarily the duty of the therapist.
Does virtue ethics give adequate action guidance? When we are assessing the virtue ethics specifically in Aristotelian, we find that it is much more moderate than the other two moral theories, which are consequentialism and Kantian deontology. It is partly because virtue ethics takes both the motive and the consequence of an action into account, rather than only concentrating on one of them. This kind of compound value view complies with the crowd of social people’s normal thinking style.

In this paper, I argue about the applicability of virtue ethics which is one of three major branches of normative ethics. The subject of virtue ethics is normally defined as one that puts emphasis on virtues which are also known as moral character. The branch is in contrast to the majority of the approaches which places a lot of emphasizes on responsibilities and rules. The practice is also known as deontology or the practice which emphasizes on the results of actions. It is also known as consequentialism (Swanton,11).The way virtue ethics is applied in modern philosophy should be clearly evaluated.
Many people have different views of what ethical behavior is. Ethical behavior is defined as “Acting in ways consistent with what society and individuals typically think are good values. Ethical behavior tends to be good for business and involves demonstrating respect for key moral principles that include honesty, fairness, equality, dignity, diversity and individual rights (Ethical behavior, 2016).” In this paper, I explored ethical decision making with examples. In addition, I discuss how ethical decision making benefits from a Christian worldview.
The mental status of Jonathan has made him competent and capable of making rational decision to any medical intervention or treatment. This gives rise to an ethical dilemma that the hospital staff and Jonathan’s physician may be facing. Jonathan’s autonomy conflicts with his healthcare team’s commitment to do good to him or in providing care in his best interest. The healthcare team or medical staff may encounter more difficulty because the father of Jonathan appears to be supportive with his decision on the refusal of care and treatment (except for pain management).
