Have you ever heard of the company FedEx? Imagine if they had horses and ships instead of cars and planes. They also had their own army and covered a huge part of the world. That is the British East India Company. The company was super powerful in several ways. Their connection to Brittan gave them a monopoly over trade and their armies made them able to control their own lands. The British East India Tea Company helped start the Revolutionary war. The British East India Tea Company was originally called “The Governor and Company of Merchants of London trading into the East Indies”. They meant to trade with, obviously, the East Indies but it traded with several other places including China and the Indian Subcontinent. They mostly trade common items like wool, silk, dye, and salts. However, they were most known for their tea trade. Almost anyone who has heard of the East India Company will think of the tea it traded. Another key point, the company received a royal charter, or a document that gives rights or powers, from Queen Elizabeth on December 31, 1600. This meant that the company was officially on the same team as Brittan. The company was also a joint-stock company which means that they sold shares of their company to other people. Also, the company used its private army to rule India. With this, The East India Company managed to start several wars. Somewhere around 1770, it became clear that the East India Company could not control and govern its giant lands. It began to lose huge amounts of its money paying for various things they used as a company. At the same time, the tea tax wasn’t helping. The taxes made the tea to expensive. The Coercive Acts were later called the Intolerable Acts because the colonists could not tolerate them. So, the East India Company ended up making the colonists and the parliament both mad at each other. They each fought back, through the Boston Tea Party and the Intolerable Acts. The East India Company unintentionally went across the line and started the Revolution War by selling tea. And then, the Revolutionary was started. In the end, it was clear that one of the major causes of the Revolutionary war was the British East India Company. The company was one of the biggest trading companies that ever existed. It was one of the most powerful groups in existence at the time. And, even if it was unintentional, the company created the U.S, an entire country.
Many people believe that the Boston Tea Party arose just because of the Tea Act that came into play in 1773, but in-fact, this major statement arose from two issues surrounding the British Empire in 1765. The first of the issues was that the British East India Company was at risk of going under and the Parliament was finding ways to bring it back. The second issue was that there was a continuing dispute about the extent of the Parliament’s authority. Many colonists believe that the Parliament went overboard with their power and the people were concerned about the future. Attempting to resolve these two major issues, the North Ministry only worsened the problem and produced a showdown that would eventually result in revolution.
In 1773, the Tea Act placed taxes on tea, threatening the power of the colonies. The colonies, however, fought back by pouring expensive tea into the Boston harbor in an event now known as the Boston Tea Party. The enraged Parliament quickly passed the Intolerable Acts, shutting down the port of Boston and taking control over the colonies.
The Intolerable Acts is several acts the British government put in place to punish the colonist for disobeying. For example One act closed the Boston Harbor until the colonist paid for the lost tea and learned to respect the British Parliament. So the colonist called first Continental Congress meeting. This meeting consist of delegates from the colonies, in reaction to the heavy taxes forced by the British Government. This meeting made the colonist call for a revolution and freedoms from Britain control.

Chinese tea, which was said to be more valuable than gold, was the company’s most lucrative commodity, accounting for over 90 percent of its commercial profits.

In the first few months of 1773 the British East India Company found it was sitting on large stocks of tea that it could not sell in England. It was on the verge of bankruptcy, and many members of Parliament owned stock in this company. (USA, 1) The Tea Act in 1773 was an effort to save it. The Tea Act gave the company the right to export its merchandise without paying taxes. Thus, the company could undersell American merchants and monopolize the colonial tea trade. In the mid eighteenth century colonist of the new world started to rebel against Britain. Living in the colonies cost Britain a great deal of money Colonist did not like that they were being taxed. There were several acts passed that angered the colonists. For example, the Stamp Act, the Stamp Act was passed in 1765 taxed all legal documents including newspapers and other printed materials. The Stamp Act affected all that bought printed materials and it did not affect the poor because it was not too expensive. The colonist started to rebel and boycotted “No taxation without representation.” The colonists rebelled in many ways one of them was the Boston Tea Party. The Boston Tea Party occurred in 1773 as an act of revolt colonists threw tea cargo of a ship to the ocean. These acts of Britain towards the new colonies caused colonist to revolve and declare war to separate from Britain. The colonists were not justified to going to war to break away from Britain because England was paying more taxes and the mother country deserved absolute respect; however, the colonists were justified to break away from Britain because they were taxed without representation.

However, with their newfound knowledge of Enlightenment principles like freedom and reason, many colonists began to see the taxes as unfair. Additionally, as the British government continued to try to interfere with American government, many colonists began to want a new government that was based on Enlightenment principles instead. Some of the colonists were divided about the Intolerable Acts because they thought the people involved in the Boston Tea Party acted irrationally and gave American's a bad name. Others were incensed that the actions of Parliament caused such a drastic reaction from the colonists.
The imperial tactics of the British Empire were exercised on the colonists through heavy taxes trade restrictions because of their mercantilist economy. The Stamp Act taxed the colonists directly on paper goods ranging from legal documents to newspapers. Colonists were perturbed because they did not receive representation in Parliament to prevent these acts from being passed or to decide where the tax money was spent. The colonists did not support taxation without representation. The Tea Act was also passed by Parliament to help lower the surplus of tea that was created by the financially troubled British East India Company. The colonists responded to this act by executing the Boston Tea Party which tossed all of the tea that was imported into the port of Boston. These events consisted of The French and Indian war, the Stamp Act, the Townshend Revenue Act, the Tea Act, and of course the Boston Tea Party. In the early 1600’s Queen Elizabeth granted the East Indian Company (EIC) its first charter. The EIC was the company that was to handle all the trading of goods in the East Indies (Carp, 7-8). The Company did so well that it helped with Europe’s economy, and “helped to support the government through payment of customs duties” (Carp, 8).
