Texting is dangerous Back in 2006 the university of Utah found out that people are as impaired when the drive and talk on a phone. Texting while driving should be banned for our nation’s safety. According to researchers at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, in New Hyde Park estimate more than 3,000 annual teen’s deaths nationwide from texting and around 300,000 injuries (texting while driving now leading). Texting while driving or even talking on the phone needs to be banned not only in Oklahoma but all over the world. There is a huge amount of reasons why texting needs to be banned such as it kills and hurts people as well, it’s causing problems for our government, and it’s very distracting. Not paying attention and doing more than one thing at a time can most likely get you into a car crash with another car. Texting and any other thing that requires you visual and cognitive attention from the other drivers, it is by far the most alarming distraction (“distracted driving”). When you text and drive it flakes away your seeing and watching the road so that’s another reason why it’s dangerous and distracting. After finding out that distraction is the number one reason why accidents happen, researchers did a test they never done before where people would text on their phones while driving and see how many people get into crashes. 71 percent of teenagers said that they sent text message or opened messages while driving. According to the U.S department of transportation is leading the effort to stop texting and cell phone use behind a wheel (“distracted driving is dangerous”).
