Christopher Reeve once said, “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Anyone can become a hero, but being an American Hero is looking beyond oneself for a greater cause. Furthermore, American heroes are heroes who find this strength and endurance not only for themselves but also for their country, for the United States. Franklin D. Roosevelt did exactly that. With his leadership, Roosevelt left behind a legacy that still echoes in American politics, economy, and society today. ...ourage and optimism needed to bring the US out of its suffering. Forever, he changed the way presidents communicated with citizens; he brought comfort by providing understanding to troubled Americans during the Depression. FDR gave assurance and inspired new dreams for equality during World War II, and he still continues to inspire today. Because of FDR, Americans no longer live in unemployment and poverty, but as a world power, and a land of opportunity. Instead, of facing inferiority and discrimination, women gained suffrage and no matter what race, gender, or religion one has, every single person is given equal employment opportunities. He saw beyond what people wanted him to do in order to gain supporters and fame, but he did what was he thought would be best for the nation.
