Elmer Gantry, the Terwillinger College president and a star football player, is continually enticed by many temptations including girls, alcohol and cigarettes. One day, when he travels with his friend Jim Lefferts to a near-by town, he drunkenly stands up for Eddie Fislinger, the Y.M.C.A. president, and his religious preaching. Inspired by the statements made by Elmer that defend religion; Eddie incessantly attempts to persuade Elmer to convert.
When Judson Roberts, a former college football star, arrives at Elmer’s town, he is converted by the belief that it takes a strong man to accept Jesus and have eternal glory and life. Later on, Elmer and Frank Shallard, a fellow student at Mizpah Seminary, are called to be preacher and assistant at the church in Schoenheim. There, Elmer has a relationship with Lulu Bains, whom he is expected to marry. Elmer devises a scheme that he executes perfectly to make sure that this marriage does not take place. Elmer goes on with his training in the ministry and is presently assigned another church for the Easter service.
On the way there, he meets a man who lives by his temptations. Foolishly, Elmer agrees to a rendezvous with the man and his friends from the Pequot Farm Implement Company. Elmer is unsuccessful in his attempt to hold off the enticement of alcohol during this tryst and is worse for the encounter. Elmer fails to show up for the Easter service and is replaced with another preacher who is assigned to find Elmer’s whereabouts. Upon finding Elmer drunk at a café telling of his exploits, the pastor reports back to Dean Trosper. Elmer is subsequently fired from Mizpah and is taken on by the Pequot Farm Implement Company.
In his travels, he encounters Sharon Falconer, a traveling evangelist. He immediately falls in love with her, along with her lilted voice, enthusiastic mind and focused nature. She contributed to the fact that Elmer was now virtuous and free of his temptations. Her life is full of falsities although she preaches about the erroneous ways of lying. Her real name is Katie Jonas and has stolen many of her sermons from other people and places.
As the traveling group of evangelists, musicians and the choir continually reduced expenses, Sharon saved up for a permanent base in which she could preach. She finally bought a pier on the New Jersey coast and decided on an opening night.
Board of Education was a United States Supreme Court case in 1954 that the court declared state laws to establish separate public schools for black segregated public schools to be unconstitutional. Brown v. Board of Education was filed against the Topeka, Kansas school board by plaintiff Oliver Brown, parent of one of the children that access was denied to Topeka’s none colored schools. Brown claimed that Topeka 's racial segregation violated the Constitution 's Equal Protection Clause because, the city 's black and white schools were not equal to each other. However, the court dismissed and claimed and clarified that segregated public schools were "substantially" equal enough to be constitutional under the Plessy doctrine. After hearing what the court had said to Brown he decided to appeal the Supreme Court. When Chief Justice Earl Warren stepped in the court spoke in an unanimous decision written by Warren himself stating that, racial segregation of children in public schools violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, which states that "no state shall make or enforce any law which shall ... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws." Also congress noticed that the Amendment did not prohibit integration and that the Fourteenth Amendment guarantees equal education to both black and white students. Hulga believes she has found the right guy. Hulga meets a Bible salesman named Manley Pointer who gives a vibe as good country man. Manly Pointer tells Hulga and her mother he’s from the country. Much like Hulga, Emily meets a northerner by the name of homer, who was a foreman. This is strange, because the Homer does not seem like the kind to take to Emily. With agreement to my statement Jim Barloon says “why did homer, a rowdy extrovert, take take up the spinsterly Emily.” Emily and Homer are seen around the town a lot as the narrator states, “we began seeing him and Miss Emily on Sunday afternoons driving in the yellow-wheeled buggy” (102). this shows that they have been a couple for the time
Characters Ruth May, Adah and Leah Price all raised by southern Baptist preacher have the same experiences, develop varied ideas of faith and beliefs and all abandon Christianity all together. Adah describes the result of faith in the Price family best when she says,
The lady that appears after the first 100 pages of the book turns out to be Vivian, Grant’s secret lover. Grant and Vivian take a walk and after their walk they visit Grant’s aunt, aunt Emma. Aunt Emma and her friends are very fond of Vivian and they give her many compliments. Aunt Emma, and the reverend go to visit Jefferson and they find that Grant’s previous account of Jefferson’s recovery was lie; Jefferson still eats and behaves like a “hog';. Aunt Emma and the reverend confront Grant regarding his faulty account of Jefferson’s recovery. Once again, Grant visits Jefferson and tries to convince him that he is not a hog and he is a man. After a couple more visits from the ladies and Grant, the chapter ends off with the whole town watching a Christmas play on the birth of Jesus. After the play, Grant is tired of watching the same play and seeing the same people dressed in the same kinds of clothing year after year.
The setting of the book is portrayed around the time of World War I in the Salinas Valley, and the novel is divided into two vital parts. The protagonist family is the Trask family. At the beginning of the first part of the book, the Trask household consists of two brothers, Adam and Charles, and their father, Cyrus. Cyrus Trask inspires the novel by showing more affection for Adam, than for Charles. Once in adulthood, Adam Trask falls in love with a prostitute named Cathy Aims. Cathy is described as the devil itself, and she believes that only evil remains. After Adam and Cathy are married, they move

Miss Amelia Evans, Cousin Lymon Willis, and Marvin Macy, are the players involved in this grotesque love triangle. The feelings they respectively have for each other are what drives the story, and are significant enough that the prosperity of entire town hinges upon them.
The family spends its' time on street corners, singing church hymns, and reading verses from the Bible. Soon, however, we begin to see the growth of Clyde's free will, and natural curiosity. He begins to explore the world, out of the view of his parents. Soon he realizes the corruption that exists, and falls victim to it, through he does not realize it.
One day a carnival arrives in Millerton. Hattie becomes friends with a carnival kid named Leila. Hattie spends many afternoons at the carnival, the girls ride all the carnival rides for free and eat whatever they want for free. Hattie feels that her grandparents are restrictive with Adam and Haitte snuck out that night to go to the carnival. When Adam loses control on the Ferris wheel with his disorder he basically has an episode, he's taken away by police and Hattie is in big trouble with her family because he snuck out.. The next day Adam comes back to Hattie's house for Angel valentine.

George explains that he is acting as Lennie’s advocate because Lennie is not smart, but assures the boss that he is a hard worker. The two of them meet Candy, an old swamper with a sheepdog; Crooks, an ascetic black stable hand; the boss's belligerent son Curley, an amateur boxer with a bad temper; Curley's wife, who has a reputation as a "tart"; Carlson, another ranch hand; and Slim, the chief mule skinner who is discerning and benevolent. Curley's wife peeks Lennie’s attention, but George eagerly warns him to stay away from her and Curley. Days later, Slim goes to the barn to do some work, and Curley, who is looking for his wife, heads to the barn to find Slim. Unintentionally, Candy overhears George and Lennie talking about their plan to buy the land of their dreams, and offers his entire life’s savings if they will let him live there too. The three promise to not let anyone else know of their plan. Slim returns to the bunkhouse and Curley, searching for an easy target for his anger, and when he finds Lennie, he picks a fight with him. Lennie crushes Curley’s hand in the short brawl. Slim warns Curley that if he tries to get George and Lennie fired, he will be the laughingstock of the farm. The next day, Lennie is in the barn with a dead puppy. While Lennie thinks about an excuse about the dead puppy to George, Curley's wife enters. Lennie and her have a brief discussion about how they enjoy touching soft things. Curley’s wife tells him that he can touch her hair, but when Lennie strokes it too hard and messes it up, she gets angry. She tries to jerk her head away, and in fear, Lennie grips on to her hair. Curley's wife, then begins to scream. Lennie becomes startled, so he holds onto her tightly, but accidentally breaks her neck. Huckleberry Finn is a young boy in an old world. Through his actions, he displays that he has good heart, although he lives in a time of mixed morals. Huck belongs in the bottom of the social hierarchy, he has received very little education and religious practice. Throughout his adventures, Huck is able to grow as a person, learning from the people he meets. Along the way, he faces several moral dilemmas which serve to teach the audience that doing what is correct is more important than doing what society has imposed.
The first health probably from being overweight is Coronary Heart Disease. When a person’s body weight rises so does there risk for coronary heart diseases or CHD. CHD is a condition when a waxy substance called plaque starts to build up inside of the coronary arteries. The coronary arteries supply oxygen filled blood to the heart. Plaque will narrow or block these arteries which will reduce blood flow to the heart and muscles. This could cause a heart attack in person and being obese can also lead to heart failure. This is a very serious condition where your heart can’t pump enough blood to meet your body’s needs. The next thing is high blood pressure and this is when the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood. If this pressure on the walls of the arteries stays too high over time it will damage the body in many ways. So if a person is overweight then they have a higher change of having high blood pressure. When a person is obese it can lead to a build of plaque in your arteries and if one of these areas of plaque rupture it can cause a blood clot to form. Hopefully this clot is not by a person’s brain because if it is it can block the flow of blood to your brain and cause a stroke. You also could get type two Diabetes which is a disease when the body’s blood glucose, or blood sugar, level is way too high. Usually the body will break down food into glucose,
His morality and values seem to aim more towards the fun aspect of life. He shows little regard towards getting good grades or taking responsibility for anything.
