Self Assessment One of the hardest decisions I will ever make is what to do as a career when I get out of high school. However, with consideration, I have decided that zoology is the best career for me. I have always loved animals and been intrigued in their natural behavior. I love to make discoveries, and that is a very important part of what I would do as a zoologist. Math and Science are my two favorite subjects in school; this makes doing research fun for me because I love science. I would be happy in a job where I am be steadily employed. In a career I would like to get recognition for my work, though this is not imperative. Good working conditions are a must in a field of my choice. AP courses are offered various subjects such as: Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. These courses prepare you for your college classes. International Baccalaureate courses are also valuable courses to take while still in high school.

High School Courses

One other high school courses that is recommended is Anatomy and Physiology. This course is important because as a zoologist it is important to know the structure and relation between body parts of the animal. Within this class, a person would study the biology of animals that live alongside humans such as cattle, sheep, pigs, and other various livestock. This course is important to this career for the reason that a zoologist may need to develop cures for diseases for livestock. One final class that would be imperative in a career in zoology is Computer Applications. Within this class you learn how to use many computer programs such as geographic information systems, modeling software, and many others to track the migration of animals or population estimates.
College Education
Qualification in the field of zoology requires at least a high school diploma and a bachelors degree in biological science. However a Doctoral degree is needed to head up research projects.

Wages The bottom twenty-five percent of zoologists in Minnesota makes $48,700. The top seventy-five percent range of people in this career make $65,320. However the median of people in this field make $57,150. Overall the amount varies depending on where in Minnesota you work? The United States has a lower twenty-five percent wage of $47,950. The median is 59,680. The top seventy-five percentile make an average of $75,040. A career in the field of zoology is towards the middle of wages for college graduates.
