In Yann Martel’s book Life of Pi, the main character Pi becomes a Christian and practices his faith even when shipwrecked at sea with a 450 pound Bengal Tiger. This book shows all the trials Pi goes through during his 227 days at sea, all the while he keeps his faith. In a lot of the challenges he faces, he turns to God and can relate to the challenges his Savior has been through as well. He may believe in many faiths, but Christianity shows a lot of similarities in his many trials he goes through.

He loved God (Martel 91). Pi and God were alike in many ways. One story from the bible was when God got separated from his parents when he was 12 years old (“Christianity”). Fortunately he found them later, unlike Pi, but they both knew what it was like to be separated from loved ones. God and Pi both faced several challenges, and both never lost faith. Whenever Pi was blessed with rain water, food, or anything he believed was a blessing he thanked God. He never forgot to thank the one who gave it to him, and that showed how much of a committed Christian he was. Pi also survived being out at sea for 227 days with Richard Parker, a 450 pound Bengal Tiger. He trained and fed the tiger. They were all each other had. Pi took the challenge God gave him and never gave up. He always thanked God, and this was another extreme trial that he conquered. Jesus went through trials like this also. He was crucified on a cross and then awoke in his tomb 3 days later! (“Christianity’). Neither of them gave up on God, no matter what the circumstances.
Although Pi may have had many faiths, he used Christianity in times of need, and never forgot to thank God. His patience with Richard Parker, and with God, was astounding. Pi had a few rough patches, but came out victorious with the help of God and some bravery. The book Life of Pi was a book based of many religions, especially Christianity.
