The women’s suffrage movement started with the Seneca Falls Women’s Convention. The convention held in 1848 in New York brought together 300 people, 40 of those being men. The convention strived to bring attention to the hardships of women. The convention spanned over two days, the main focus of the convention was to discuss the role of women in society. Holding the convention where people were favorable to reform increased the chance that women would receive a sympathetic hearing.
