With 7 billion people in this world and counting, there are bound to be countless of opinions and issues arising. But, during the 1900s, many people’s concern was the idea of women’s suffrage. Some were all for it, others were very hostile towards it. During this time, women were expected to nurture and care for their children. They were to cook, clean, and were expected to complete all of their civic responsibilities that was expected of them by society. Men were to work outside the home, were expected to obtain arduous jobs or get themselves involved in politics, to decide what is right or wrong for their country. In Document A, Senator Robert Owens Supports Women (1910), Owens argues that women are indeed as worthy as men are. He argues that, “...Women are better informed about house government, and she can learn state government with as much facility as he can learn how to instruct children, properly feed and clothe the household, care for the sick… or make a house beautiful.” Here Owens is saying that women are just as capable as men are to become involved in government. A woman can learn about government, just as she can learn about government and politics. They can still be mothers and wives, but have a more important part in society and the world by getting the same pay and recognition as men. Why isn’t that women have a say in anything, why aren’t they able to voice their opinions and vote for what they want as well? Women can do everything a man can do and even though a male is physically stronger than a female, a women makes up for that with her intelligence and ideas. A woman’s perspective on politics can shed a whole new light on government and politics. She can think of something a man would have never thought of in a million years. Afterall, a woman knows best! It was proven that women actual brought on more positive changes, rather than negative ones. The four states that had granted women’s suffrage in the 1900s, was proven to be the best decision that was ever made.
