“Just because she’s beautiful it doesn’t mean you aren’t” (All Womens Talk). Young women in today’s society have been influenced by social media. And the media has been impacting them in the worst way possible. Social media has been influencing these women by making them think that they are not good enough or that they should look different than they should. Because of the media making these women feel this way they often resort to having body image issues and it affects their mental health. Body image problems have become a big dilemma for a great deal of women because it can affect not only their mental health, but also their social health, and their physical health. today there are millions of young women who have complication with their body image. Studies have shown that over ninety percent of women want to change at least one thing about their body appearance. According to research self esteem problems start in young women at the age of nine. At the age of ten about eighty percent of girls are afraid of becoming fat. In the U.S. today over 9 million teens are obese, that is almost three times as more than in 1980. In the recent years there has been an thirteen percent of girls have acknowledged that they have an eating disorder. Seven out of every ten girls believe that they do not measure up in some way or think that they are not good enough. Studies have shown that over eighty percent of ten year old girls have gone on diets and that ninety percent of high school girls are on diets. These disorders include: anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and bulimia nervosa. Anorexia Nervosa is when one has a inadequate of food and it then shows in their weight, meaning they start to lose weight rapidly. One also has a fear of gain weight so they take extra precautions to prevent any weight gain from happening. This also ties into one’s self esteem issues about their body image. Most body image issues stem up from one being on social media and comparing one’s self to others. Binge eating disorder is when one undergoes large intakes of food, but then purges of it by vomiting the intake up. This also is brought up from social media because one will see others and compare one to them. And finally bulimia nervosa is quite similar to the binge eating because one will intake food and have an act of vomiting it back
