According to Gockel, “from a Christian perspective, evil is something God has overcome through good” (2009, p.97). Those who believe in God, know that questioning Him is wrong because it means that they do not believe in the goodness of God. People who trust the Lord know his goodness, that He will rescue and heal them from all evil. Also, believers trust in God’s power in difficult times because He hears them throughout the prayers. God can be trusted as he has proven his love in many ways.
God also asks all of his followers to forgive other because he has forgiven them. With the immense amount of grace that He has it’s hard to not obey him. God has so much power and is so strong that Christians are to obey him and his will. Christians fear the Lord not out of sacredness but instead out of awe of his almighty power and mercy. Although forgiving for selfish reasons do have benefits, it isn’t the right way to approach the situation of forgiveness.
He was greatly feared by the people who tried feverishly to make themselves worthy of his grace in his eyes. Although the Puritan people knew that they chosen few were the only ones going to Heaven, they still strove to be good people. Their live styl... ... middle of paper ... ... live it, but in a way that if you are truly a Christian then you have all the freedom that you need. All the "bad" things will not appeal to you. All humans are born sinners, but I believe that you have the power to control your sin.
Christianity played a large role in both of their lives. They both looked to God to help them through dark times. They also both believed that their good fortunes were because of the Lord. Mary Prince admits that “if the Lord had not put it into the hearts of the neighbours to be kind to me, I must, I really think, have lain and died.” Olaudah Equiano also thanks God for his good luck. He recognized that he was luckier than most slaves and thanks God for this.
The theme that speaks to me the most is Love. What love means to me is when people have a feeling of deep affection towards another person. God gave us a precious gift that we should all cherish which in today’s time most people are tempted by the devil to not love the way God wants us to. I will discuss different points from the Old and New Testament, am going to be mentioning scriptures about love that is in the Bible. I chose the theme love because as I said before love is a precious gift that God has given us to cherish and love others as we love ourselves.
He was completely oblivious to the true loving nature of God stated in John 3:16-17 “That God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son for us and whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (Bible Hub, 1 John 3:16-17) He used a monotone when he gave his sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” but he preached as if he was angry with the people as well. Edwards insisted that God was so angry that they were closer than they could have imagined from being thrown into the pits of Hell. The sermon may have been successful to some people, for those who imagined God dangling people over the fires of hell in no doubt ran to the altar to seek repentance. However, some may have even lost their faith altogether because they felt they stood no chance in the eye in such a wrathful God. Unlike Jonathan Edwards, Anne Bradstreet did not write to preach or teach.
People often times single me out for being a christian. They just love asking me about touchy subjects to see my response. And this is because, unfortunately, there are so many christians who have this idea that the whole world needs to see things the same way they do. You see so much hate coming out of a religion that claims to preach peace and love. Christians see it as protecting the bible but it just comes across as ignorant.
My Opinion on Suffering When there is suffering taking place in the world, we do find it hard to believe in God, because after all if God had produced all his amazing, talented creatures, then why would he let disasters happen such as people suffering in the world or people killing one another. We tend to blame God for this reason, but I have a different assumption. People as well as me believe that God doesn't stop the suffering, but he helps us face that suffering even by telling him in our prayers we feel relieved that we can get it off our chests. If we know we can put our trust in him completely for e.g. example when someone very close to us dies, our parents, or a sibling, we turn to God to help us get through these terrible times.
We are all truly blessed to have a God that would rather save us than destroy us, a God that would give His life for us. Some of this is hard to understand. People will lose faith and believe all this to be false, but what is faith if there is no question. Our questioning is what led to Jesus coming in the first place, and when He destroyed death, He proved Himself to us all.
Pico 's belief in god 's all-knowing nature, also helps him reason that even the ancients were good, even if they are in hell for the lack of Christ. To put it simple, humanity should be cherished, because humanity was cherished by
