Why Writing Is Important To Me

Ever since I was knee-high to a grasshopper I have known what I want to do and who I plan to be. An author is someone who manipulates words, adds their voice, and uses their imagination to create characters, worlds, and plots. An author of fiction is exactly what I want to be and who I have worked on to become. Thus, I have decided that when I am out of Union County Early College (SPCC), I would like to major in English and minor in Creative Writing. I have a lot to learn and I'm looking forward to mastering my future profession eventually (though I doubt I will ever master all there is to know about the written word).
I don't know much about writing in th discipline most related to my major, but I am hypothesizing that it could fit under humanities and the arts depending on what is being written. For example, if I were to write a fictional story dealing with someone who has been bullied, or someone who has a mental disorder, or even someone who is going through racial issues, it could tie into humanities and possibly even social sciences. And there's no doubt that writing is a form of art. Not only have they looked for meaning, instructors have also looked for correct formatting on citations and the set up of the paper. But more than that, they look for a voice that is my own that will set me apart and show my understanding of the material teached. I am sure there are many other things my instructors and my classmates have expected from me, but I would not know what those things are because I am not them or much of a people-pleaser. What I do know, however, is that they've always expected me to try my best and I have always fulfilled that one
