Should the drunk drivers received punishment for their first offense? Each year more than 16,000 people are killed due to drunken driver’s related accidents. The rates of those accidents could be lowered if any kind of sanction were given for drivers not respecting the law. It’s a serious issue that need to be resolved because people that drive while drunk are risking lives of other drivers on the road. First of all, I do think that drunk drivers should be imprisoned on first offense because there’s too much accidents happening on the road because of drivers with bad habits. Those people should be sent to jail because they will do it again if they don’t get any punishment. Imprisoning drivers that are drunk will save lives of other people and it will make other drivers think twice before driving while drunk. Saving the life of good drivers should be a priority and by giving a punishment to bad drivers. In addition, it is true that everyone do make mistakes but if we tolerate this kind of offense on the road, bad drivers will continue to do it and put in danger everyone around them. If a driver drive while knowing he’s not in condition to drive, it means he doesn’t care about his own life and will certainly not care about risking the life of others. Some people never learn from their mistakes and even if you give them a chance, they will not use it to their advantages to do what is right and will continue to do the bad choices.
