The issue is the possums are killing our environment by scratching bark of trees and killing endangered animals that are native to new zealand, such as our kiwi, and a lot of trees have been getting wrecked such as our totara,rimu, and the kowhai tree and plenty more habitats of native birds such as Kea , tui, kaka. This is a issue because if we don't solve this and kill the possums we will have native birds that will be extinct and so will trees they will slowly die of with the way possums scratch and eat leafs. These fluffy long tail animals don't only do this , when they climb trees and try and get hu-hu grubs and they scratch at the bark it kills the tree after a while.he possums are having a massive impact in new zealand on the environment. The possum competes with native birds cause there main diet is leaves and nectar and by eating the trees leaves it slows down the growth of the native tree and sometimes even killing the tree. Every new zealand native animal are unique and have no similar animals in the world the same, we have the kiwi, and is the only of its kind and there is 3 to 5 different kiwi kind, and there's the kaka witch is one of its own
