Why Eighth Grade Is The Best Of Times

Charles Dickens, famous English author, wrote these famed words in his book, Tale of Two Cities: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” Eighth grade probably feels like the best of times. Students are at the top of the social pyramid and know about everyone.
With academics coming so easily, they could also be top of their class, waiting for the valedictorian announcement they were a shoe-in for. However, once those pupils start ninth grade, it may feel like the worst of times. When transitioning into a new environment, students can feel like they’re not important because of their low standings in the social order of high school. Academics and athletics, things that came so easily before, may not be so easy. Students might think that they will still be the smartest or most athletic in the school, but they won’t because in high school, it’s for the future not fun. While in eighth grade students have daily classes, ninth graders usually have a block schedule; half of their classes are taken every other day. Because of block schedule, eighth graders have shorter class periods than ninth graders. However, early high schoolers have two days to complete their homework unless otherwise stated. Eighth graders on the other hand only have one day to complete their homework. However, high school classes may be more challenging because students are able to move up to classes that fit what they are able to do. That option is not available for eighth
