Why Do White People Dominate Society

A lot of black people today live in a society where violence is imminent. They cling on to this notion of “white supremacy”, or the belief that white people are superior to those of all other races, especially the black race, and should therefore dominate society. This mentality has led them to believe that every single white person is out there to discriminate them. This is classic racism. But, the fact that black people in the United States are more likely to be victims of violent confrontations with police officers than whites because they commit more violent crimes than whites per capita is a clear sign that our authorities are not biased with what race you are. With low number of population, they still have the higher number of committed crimes. According to the National Crime Victimization Survey in 2002, the black arrest rate for robbery was 8.55 times higher than whites, and blacks were 16 times more likely to be incarcerated for robbery than non-Hispanic whites. Robberies with white victims and black offenders were more than 12 times more common than vice-versa. (2002). Another form of crime is homicide. Blacks accounted for 52.5% of homicide offenders from 1980 to 2008, with whites 45.3% and “other” 2.2%. The offending rate for blacks was almost 8 times higher than whites, and the victim rate 6 times higher. Most of the homicides were between their own race, with 84% of white victims killed by white, and 93% of black victims killed by blacks. (2008). This shows that they are more likely to die by their own race. It is a fact that black people get a longer sentence compared to their white counterpart because the defendants are twice as likely to push for mandatory minimum sentences, leading to longer sentences when proven guilty. …show more content…

A lot of black people today still have this idea that whites are the higher race, higher than them which makes them think that whites dominate the society. But is this really the case? According to Reverend Jesse Peterson, blacks have been given to express themselves today – particularly on race issues. He added that they can say whatever they want about white people with little to no fear at all for a backlash. A lot of black public figures stereotype white people. (2015). Peterson said, “Whites are not allowed to make fun of or criticize black people, no matter how crazy blacks act. If a white person dares to speak the truth about blacks, he or she will be labeled “racist” and immediately shut down. Separate but not equal – sounds a lot like Jim Crow.” (2015). He also pointed out that the system does not only allow a few “negroes” to succeed. He made this clear by giving out a few examples who succeeded, such as the President of the United States Barack Obama. He even stated that “white supremacy” or “white privilege” are not the things hindering the black people today – they are doing it to themselves as a result of the anger that the melt down of black family presented. (2015). Peterson’s closing remarks, however, are what we should ponder on.
