Being in a crowded class full of kids, all the obnoxious noise, and trying to listen to your teacher teach. Most of us have been in this position, wanting to learn and listen, but we can not. Studies show that if class size decreases, achievement increases. Many people think that being in a smaller class will boost test scores, grades, and overall achievement. Though that statement is true, but it also contradicts into a more personal classroom. You will be able to gain more one on one with your teachers. With having so many students in each of my classes, I had a very hard time having all of my questions answered by my teachers. The hardest part of having so many students in my classes was that I was often not the smartest one in there, and when I gave a wrong answer I was laughed at. It is not fair to feel intimidated by the amount of students in your classroom. No one should be afraid to learn for the fear of embarrassment. Students should not have the opportunity not to learn because the teacher can not relate to them, or because the teacher does not have the time to answer all their questions, or because their teacher only gives attention to the smarter students.

Many teachers believe classrooms are too small. Many teachers and students believe classrooms are not big enough. If students are working on a group activity that takes up a lot of space will have to do activity in the hallway. If students are watching a film for class will have to move or adjust because most likely students in the back of the classroom cannot see. Teachers may not have enough desks some students may end up sitting in a part of the room where it could be the size of a coat closet.
There are three major factors in smaller classes that allow teachers to better help students. Because of the reduction in class size, classroom management is easier and less time consuming. Smaller classes ensure that students have less of an opportunity to misbehave because teachers can monitor them more closely. Thus, teachers do not have to focus their class time on classroom management but rather on studentsf learning. Since student misbehavior is less problematic, smaller classes yield more time for teachers to develop their learning activities and concentrate on their teaching strategies (Handley 2). On the other hand, with larger classes, teachers spend less direct interaction with students and also tolerate more noises in their classes (Finn 22). For example, in my class of twenty-five, the task of handing out and collecting papers wastes time that can be used for instruction. Thus, classes often fall behind schedule because of these minor tasks that are time consuming.
Class size makes a huge impact on how the student learns. Along with many other things, there is more to the amount of kids in class than most people think. The quality one on one time is affected. Along with that, important questions that the students needs clarity on from the teacher might not be able to be answered because so many other students are in the room asking their own question. Students learn in their own ways. Teachers have to be flexible to how their students learn and in order to do that they need to know their students on a personal level. When class sizes are large, it effects students in negative ways in their learning.
To make matters worse in larger classes, they put stress on teachers as by concocting more paperwork to do for each additional student. Requiring time to grade each paper, teachers have less time to thoroughly check assignments and tests in order to supply students with feedback to help improve their skills. Also, if a teacher is really good, then they are more likely to have even more kids introduced into their class to raise average class grades (Blatchford). This may cause teachers to stop striving to do their best so they won’t have to accept a greater workload (Blatchford). Workload for teachers is also increased when they have to make larger plans to accommodate for all the students with the limited supplies per classroom. Besides increased workload, teachers also have more difficulty managing the classroom (Blatchford). Keeping forty plus kids in line is a difficult task for any teacher, and often times most teachers cannot keep track of student behavior while trying to teach. Displaying notes or a lesson also becomes much more difficult because not all kids can see the board if a class is full (Blatchford). I have been in great classes where teachers have amazing classroom management, but also in rooms that are not under control and almost nothing gets done during the period. From my experience as a middle school teacher, I have never imagined my students just sitting on their chairs and listen to my lecture. I liked to included activities in my classroom. I think this is a more effective way for students to learn. Students in my classroom could play, write, draw or do any kind of activities that they preferred.
