Following separation, Campbell considers the next stage of the cycle as initiation. According to Campbell, initiation includes the obstacles the main character needs to overcome and assumes this as the best part of the story. Initiation not only establishes the climax, it also displays the hero’s true insight of the support behind him. Finally, return is the last step of an individual's journey. Campbell explains this as the part of the journey where the hero achieves victory or comes away with a loss, either way the individual's legacy lives on.
