Anne Frank once stated that, "In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart." These were the words she had written in her diary days right before she was captured and taken away to a concentration camp. Anne Frank was one of the many Jewish people who went into hiding during the Holocaust. Her family and the Van Daan's lived together in the Annex. They were all one-day captured and taken to concentration camps. The only one that survived was Otto Frank, Anne's father. Anne's diary was later discovered by the woman who was hiding the Franks in the first place, Miep Gies. After her father had read it, he was so astonished that he later had it published. She always had a positive outlook on the world, even when she was hiding. Anne stayed positive and optimistic about the situation because she thought they could stay in hiding until the war ended. Sadly, all of the people residing at the Annex were later found. Throughout the play and her diary, you can tell how hopeful she is about the situation she's in. In the play, she said to Peter, "But you know what I sometimes think? I think the world might be going through a phase, the way I was with Mother. It'll pass..." So what she's saying is that she believes everything is going to pass over eventually, how long that'll take, she doesn't know. Most people at this time were very doubtful that they'd get through it alive or without getting found. People were scared for their lives, not that she wasn't, but she chose not to think that way. Even though she had her ups-and-downs during the war and while they were hiding, Anne always had her best intentions in mind. Although Anne had some troubles with her mother, they eventually made up. In the play, Anne said, "I have a nicer side father, a sweeter side. But I'm scared to show it. I'm afraid people are going to laugh at me if I'm serious." Anne admitted to her father that she does have a sweet side, but she was just afraid to show it sometimes because she didn't want people to judge her for it. She was nothing but kind to everyone living in the Annex, but people were always rude to her. Anne couldn't help that she was a chatterbox and got into people's business, for it was just her personality. She was very kind spirited towards everyone, no matter really what they had said to her.
