In the “Death of a Salesmen” a play written by Arthur Miller is about the story of Willy Loman, a salesman, who has been traveling most of his life but has nothing to show for it. Willy a husband and a father has a energetic, borderline obnoxious behavior. He has believed to have a grand life, being the most successful person with in his small family and also being a well-liked salesman there could be in his community. Willy raised his two sons to see him in this light, as he keeps on sharing his big stories about his success and how it is important being on the road. WILLY: That snotnose. Imagine that? I named him. I named him Howard. CHARLEY: Willy, when’re you gonna realize that them things don’t mean anything? You named him Howard, but you can’t sell that. The only thing you got in this world is what you can sell. And the funny thing is that you’re a salesman, and you don’t know that. WILLY: I’ve always tried to think otherwise, I guess. I always felt that if a man was impressive, and well liked, that nothing” (Miller 70). Here we know for sure that Willy thinks that being “well-liked” will give him instant success and will open the doors to whatever he wants. But in true reality he need to accept what has happened within his business. He also need to realize that his Boss Howard doesn’t show any interest about what his status of popularity is whether his is popular or not, rather it’s what kind of effort and determination he put into his work and career, to achieve the meaning of being truly successful in life. Willy look up to his Brother Ben’s material gains as real evidence of his family’s success.
