What would cause a black slave and a white boy to have a mutual bond and a separation at the same time? In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain there is a white boy named Huck and a black slave named Jim. As the novel progresses, Jim and Huck come together and help each other in many different ways. At the same time, they are separated by society's beliefs. Jim looks at Huck as a friend, a hero, and a superior. Jim sees Huck as a friend in the novel. “. . . Huck; you’s de bes’ fren’ Jim’s ever had; en you’s de only fren’ ole Jim’s got now” (p.p.88-89). Jim had to be tied because he was a slave and slaves weren’t treated the same as white people at the time so Jim couldn’t just sit around all day on the raft alone. Jim looks at Huck as a friend, savior, and a superior. Jim sees Huck as a friend because Huck is helping Jim to be free. Huck is also seen as a savior because Huck shows up to rescue Jim from the hut after he has been captured.
