Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is one of the protagonists in the novel that has a goal to attract the girl of his dreams, in doing so he leads himself into a death. This is shown by Gatsby’s pursuit to repeats a past, that couldn’t be repeated. Before the war Gatsby and Daisy had a love relationship, but when Gatsby had to go of to war, Daisy ended up getting married, when this was brought to the attention of Gatsby, he devised a plan to get Daisy back like the old times, this leads him into thinking that he cause repeat the past with daisy. ‘You can’t repeat the past.’ ‘Can’t repeat the past?’ He cried incredulously. ‘Why of course you can!’.... ‘I’m going to fix everything just the way it was before,’ he said, nodding determinedly. ‘She’ll see.’ (Fitzgerald 118), this quote was said by Gatsby to Nick, he told nick that it was possible to repeat the past, throughout the novel Gatsby is portrayed as someone that leaves in a different reality from everyone else. Since Gatsby is Crazy in love for Daisy, he refuses to observe and accept the reality that is thing cannot be restored with Daisy again, but since he is extremely determined to get Daisy, he doesn't realize that thing just aren't the same anymore.
