Throughout my life, I’ve always had one person who has always been there for me. She supported my interests, encouraged my creativity, lifted me up when I was down, and gave me hope when there wasn’t any. I can’t talk about myself without talking about this person. Ever since I was little, my grandma has been the most important and caring person in my life, which has shaped my beliefs, my personality, and my outlook on life. When people talk of that one person that is home to them, I think of my grandma. She’s the person I will always feel safe with, the person I can always talk to, and the person that will move hell or high water to make sure that, at the very least, I feel okay. My grandma’s main philosophy is to always get up when you fall and to always smile when you’re sad. She has taught me to be an optimist, to always look on the bright side even when things seem as dark as a black hole. She taught me that no matter how terrible the world can seem, there is so much good and so much light that it will always outweigh the bad and the dark. She tells me that whenever there are thorns, there are roses and whenever there are roses, there are thorns. She taught me that life comes with good and bad no matter what, and I need to focus on the good to make the most out of life. Most importantly, she taught me to keep fighting. She taught me that there is always light at the end of the tunnel and it is worth every ounce of my being to battle my way through whatever personal demons I have to get to that light.
