The younger the kids are, the more they learn. Harper Lee shows Scout and Jem learning lessons from their father, Atticus, all throughout the book To Kill a Mockingbird . In this novel of Harper Lee's it shows what someone teaches their children carries on, and that society should not judge others because of their name. Friends of Scout and Jem tell them that they need to stand up for what they believe in, and that no one really understands someone until you see things from their point of view.

To Kill a Mockingbird shows some great lessons for people, such as people should be careful how they act because other people will catch on. Maycomb county is a small close-knit community where everyone knows everyone. If someone was to do something the news would spread like wild fire. The society Scout and Jem live in is very traditional they knew the county’s history and everything about the people that live in it. One example where people should be careful how they act is , “ The boy laughed rudely. You ain’t sendin’ me home missus. I was on the verge of leavin’...”(Lee 30). Scout seems to already have this skill down pretty well when Atticus teaches it to them. Their neighbor Miss.Maudie wants them to not worry what others think about them, "There are just some kind of men who—who're so busy worrying about the next world they've never learned to live in this one, and you can look down the street and see the results."This shows that many people are too scared to actually stand up for what they believe in, doing this takes a lot of courage. Lots of people are too afraid to do their own thing and break tradition, Atticus is trying to teach Jem and Scout to be their own person. Jem and Scout do not really seem to care what others think. Scout is already her own person she does not care what her Aunt says and does what pleases
