The definition of activism is the policy or action of using vigorous campaigning to bring about political or social change. There are many different types of activism such as political activism, children’s activism, and human activism. The word activist means a person who campaigns social change, like Maya Angelou, Muhammad Ali, and Emma Watson. So this begs the question, “What does it mean to be an activist?” Being an activist means expressing your views, pointing out the corruption they see in society, and taking action instead of standing idly by. An activist uses different methods to get people to listen to what they have to say. Nobel Peace Prize winner, Holocaust survivor, and political activist Elie Wiesel said, “There is so much injustice and suffering crying out for our attention: victims of hunger, of racism, and political persecution, writers and poets, prisoners in so many lands governed by the Left and by the Right.” He uses these general groups as an example because we may know people in these situations, but makes us wonder if we’ve done anything to help them.
