In the eastern Subarctic there was a Native American group called the Cree’s who colonized there. The term Cree came from the French which was a name of one of the bands. The history of the Cree people had a culture with the Ojibwa, or known as the Chippewa. Later on in the nineteenth century they would out that these two groups had different cultural bodies. The case study of the Western Woods Cree happened around the 1750s. At about this time there were 20,000 Western Woods Cree people. Hudson Bay was the territory that the Western Woods Cree people would stay at. This was a relatively flat region that had hills basins, many rivers, streams, and lakes. These bands only consisted of ten to thirty members. Regional bands though consisted of a hundred to two hundred members. These members were located at the shores were they could hunt, fish, and gather berries for the summer. To become a member of one of these bands required some certain conditions. The leader of a local or regional band had the most experience, most appreciated, and must have supernatural powers. It was said that the best hunter or fisher would share their success with others in the band. Moose were a primary kill that they hunted them with bows and arrows. The second important kill was the caribou. They women and children would also help kill these animals to get their fur and they were in charge of bringing the animal’s home and preparing them for dinner. In the summer fish was a very popular resource since not that many fish were caught in the winter. One of the smallest percentage of food that the Cree’s did not like so much was plant foods.
