I have lived less than fifty miles from the University of Tennessee my whole life. That means that I have grown up learning the phrases ‘bleeding orange’, and singing “Rocky Top”. However, Volunteer spirit is more than cheering at the football game. Don’t get me wrong, I love football just as much as the next Tennessean, but for me that’s not the point. Volunteer Spirit is about a sense of community.
Volunteer Spirit has always been a part of my life. My family have all attend UT so I have spent many days at Neyland Stadium, and even more at Thompson Boling. Through basketball and football games I learned what UT values. I remember hearing about Pat Summitt being diagnosed with alzheimer's, and retiring, but she was still on the court at almost every home game. With many in the

While my workload will be heavy I will be making friends in my classes. In these classes I will be meeting groups of people who share a common interests with me. This will allow me to form smaller communities within the large community at UT. Besides the students I meet in class I hope to meet others in the Honors Program who share my work ethic and who love the Unviersity of Tennessee as much as I do. My family is a lover of sports, in fact my Uncle works in the UT Athletics department working in Technology. That being said I cannot play sports so while I won’t be on any of the club sports team, I fully intend to attend many of the games as well as the official games. I also hope to find a few clubs at UT to join so that I stay more connected to the people at the university. The last way I plan on embracing the Vol Spirit at UT is through volunteer work. Volunteering through several organizations at my high school and my church has been something I have been doing for as long as I can remember. It is the way that I feel most connected to my community, and allows me to connect to people that I might normally never get to
Connection to audience: We all here go to the University of Missouri and most of us have a reasonable sense of school spirit. Some of us here have even been raised as Mizzou (football) fans.
Next year, as I embark my first year at university, I hope to fully integrate myself into the community by getting involved in the Students' Union, joining the cheer team, volunteering where I can and making many new friends along the way. At university, I hope to maintain a high grade point average, granted that my education is extremely important to me and that I am extremely ambitious about achieving my goals.Therefore, I will commit lots of my time to my studies in hopes of being a successful student. Nevertheless, I am still looking forward to being a part of the community by devoting my extra time to helping those around me. In classes, I intend on being an active learner, a respectful student, and a helpful classmate; someone who is always willing to lend a hand to others. Through engaging in my community, I hope to bring joy to others around me by spending my time supporting local events, volunteering for fundraisers, and helping plan and organize campus activities.

UTK is more than just a school. It is a family. Nowhere else in the country will you find such a loyal, passionate fan base that spreads so far beyond campus. .The tradition of an exceptional athletics program will leave any student boasting with pride. Neyland Stadium, it's one of the largest football stadiums in the United States in terms of its capacity. It can hold up to over 100,000 fans! It has a great sports program and Saturday football games have a culture and life of their own. Every student should at least attend one football game in their time attending UTK. The atmosphere there would leave you speechless. It will definitely be one of the memories that you will cherish from your days in college. The last reason is that no matter what background one might have, they will always be a part of the Volunteer family
One major contribution I make to Texas Tech is through my work with community service. Every Texas Tech student contributes to the university though his or her actions everyday, both on campus and off campus. I choose to contribute through my actions off campus by constantly working to serve the Lubbock community in anyway possible. Working to better impact the lives of under privileged Lubbock children, helping serve at Lubbock soup kitchens, and corresponding with national community service organizations helps me to best represent my school and my values. After all of my research, and an interview with my future teammate, that these are all great things that will prepare me to be a college athlete. There is more to being a collegiate athlete other than just playing the sport and going to class. I think that it is what most people do not realize. Character and integrity are some of the main aspects that are a part of playing sports in college. In my time at Grace Bible College, all of my teammates have accepted me, and have made me feel welcome. They trust me and have taken me on their team as a newcomer. This year I have served 74 hours for Learner Leadership Council, 27 hours for National Charity League and 17 hours for New Tech High at Coppell. One of my favorite places to volunteer is at Cornerstone Closet where homeless adults come to get needed items and take showers. We get to help them find clothes, and necessities and spend time talking with them. Another organization that I spend a great deal of time serving in the summertime is Metrocrest. We put together the food backpacks for families through the Backpack Summer Hunger Project. These organizations reach out to other organizations and charities and assist with acts of service. Even on campus I have been able to serve others. Being a NTH@C Tour Ambassador has been an important way for me to give back to my school. I enjoy showing others our learning environment and the importance of what happens each day. By attending clubs on campus is also another way that I feel is a pertinent way to serve alongside others and celebrate their passions. I want to be able to provide guidance and support, as well as fun opportunities such as the Freshmen Flotilla and Bedtime Stories, in order to foster a sense of community amongst students and faculty. I have noticed that many of my friends that I lived with the Honors dorm who moved to live off campus have become disconnected with the community of the Honors College, and I would love to make an impact by keeping older students involved. I hope that I will be also be able to impact USC helping make the student population grow through helping to encourage prospective students to come here and answer any questions they have that might cause hesitation or delay. For example, I am the current treasurer of (FBLA) The Future Business Leaders of America, Member of (DECA) it 's an international association for marketing that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in finance, hospitality and management. Additionally, I am an active member with Upstanders, a club that stands up against bullying and hate; (ASA) The African Student Association and the National Art Honor Society. Volunteering is one of the most patriotic acts a person could do. The world today has put volunteering and helping others on standby while they go chase other types of happiness. After a long day of volunteering one’s feet will probably hurt , one will be sleepy , and most of all hungry. Every day after volunteering I would go home and take a nice warm shower and reflect on my experiences that day. That time in the shower helped me focus on the goals I wanted to set the next time I would volunteer.The most satisfying aspect of volunteering his helping other people because it is the right thing to do. Volunteering will teach an individual many of life’s greatest lessons, and lets an individual grow into a better person. Volunteering teaches to let go of their ignorance and false notions of world problems and lets the volunteer learn about the real, and sometimes unattractive, condition of people in the world. Many people think that one person cannot make a difference in the world, but volunteering teaches a person to at least try to make a difference in one person’s life and to build on that. Additionally, volunteering teaches a person to be leader who can inspire others to volunteer. Volunteering is an incredibly didactic experience that will forever inspire the volunteer to be a better person.
Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities. Just a small act can make a huge difference in someone’s life. The future is dependent on the individual person and the people they surround themselves with. Just a few hours will change both the volunteer’s life and the one that is in need.
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
If you had the opportunity to change the world and your life, would you? I have many experiences with volunteering and each time it has left an impressionable effect on me and benefitted the world because of it. Volunteerism gives a person the opportunity to change people’s lives, including your own. Volunteering is crucial to a functioning society and can better the world one person at a time. Volunteerism is essential to creating a functioning society, personal well being, and advancing careers.
