I have lived less than fifty miles from the University of Tennessee my whole life. That means that I have grown up learning the phrases ‘bleeding orange’, and singing “Rocky Top”. However, Volunteer spirit is more than cheering at the football game. Don’t get me wrong, I love football just as much as the next Tennessean, but for me that’s not the point. Volunteer Spirit is about a sense of community.
Volunteer Spirit has always been a part of my life. My family have all attend UT so I have spent many days at Neyland Stadium, and even more at Thompson Boling. Through basketball and football games I learned what UT values. I remember hearing about Pat Summitt being diagnosed with alzheimer's, and retiring, but she was still on the court at almost every home game. With many in the …show more content…

While my workload will be heavy I will be making friends in my classes. In these classes I will be meeting groups of people who share a common interests with me. This will allow me to form smaller communities within the large community at UT. Besides the students I meet in class I hope to meet others in the Honors Program who share my work ethic and who love the Unviersity of Tennessee as much as I do. My family is a lover of sports, in fact my Uncle works in the UT Athletics department working in Technology. That being said I cannot play sports so while I won’t be on any of the club sports team, I fully intend to attend many of the games as well as the official games. I also hope to find a few clubs at UT to join so that I stay more connected to the people at the university. The last way I plan on embracing the Vol Spirit at UT is through volunteer work. Volunteering through several organizations at my high school and my church has been something I have been doing for as long as I can remember. It is the way that I feel most connected to my community, and allows me to connect to people that I might normally never get to
