One major contribution I make to Texas Tech is through my work with community service. Every Texas Tech student contributes to the university though his or her actions everyday, both on campus and off campus. I choose to contribute through my actions off campus by constantly working to serve the Lubbock community in anyway possible. Working to better impact the lives of under privileged Lubbock children, helping serve at Lubbock soup kitchens, and corresponding with national community service organizations helps me to best represent my school and my values. The community should encourage continued community service from college students that receive scholarships and or some type of financial aid to volunteer, with the existing programs. This could increase the amount of people available to these after school and summer programs, while saving the city some money. This could prove to be a major step in continuing to improve the city and make it a desired place to live and prosper.
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change world.” My goals for going to West Texas A&M is getting the necessary skills and getting the education necessary to become a radiologist. West Texas A&M home of the Buffaloes is publically known for their excellent nursing classes and will provide me with the necessary skills for successful future in Radiology.
While my workload will be heavy I will be making friends in my classes. In these classes I will be meeting groups of people who share a common interests with me. This will allow me to form smaller communities within the large community at UT. Besides the students I meet in class I hope to meet others in the Honors Program who share my work ethic and who love the Unviersity of Tennessee as much as I do. My family is a lover of sports, in fact my Uncle works in the UT Athletics department working in Technology. That being said I cannot play sports so while I won’t be on any of the club sports team, I fully intend to attend many of the games as well as the official games. I also hope to find a few clubs at UT to join so that I stay more connected to the people at the university. The last way I plan on embracing the Vol Spirit at UT is through volunteer work. Volunteering through several organizations at my high school and my church has been something I have been doing for as long as I can remember. It is the way that I feel most connected to my community, and allows me to connect to people that I might normally never get to
In this effort, I serve the community by making an effort to keep the people in it healthier. Lastly, I show service to my school through the help I provided while in the National Junior Honor Society. As a member of NJHS I helped our middle school begin a recycling program; I helped get the recycling boxes and bins ready, gather paper from around the school, and sort the paper after school. Through this I show a dedication to my school and community, because not only does recycling help the school reduce waste but it also allows the environment resources to last longer. For these reasons, I am an excellent, determined, helpful member, who is more than willing to provide service to my school and community.
Contribution is essential because it show that we are focused on the issue, people can also benefit from our individual thoughts and ideas. As a future Grand Canyon University student, it is highly important to me to be included in the honors college on campus. As a science major, I will have the opportunity to join the Honors STEMists club where I will be able to find other students who enjoy the various stem fields which I look forward to. The ability to room and be around other honors college members will definately help me become accustomed to college life. I do thoroughly apply myself as a student and a citizen both inside and outside of the classroom. I plan to study forensic science at GCU and hope to keep myself heavily involved around campus through clubs, intramural activities amongst other opportunities provided to me. This program interests me mainly because the challenge that it will provide me with for many years to come. I also enjoy all science courses, but chemistry is the one that is most fond to me. Forensics is a heavy workload of chemistry, which was my favorite subject in school.
Over the years I have been very involved in my community and school. Being a part of something helps to define who you are as a person and the principles and values you hold as important. A personal experience that helps to show my talents and skills can be illustrated by my trip to Italy last April with the MHS Language Department.
How did a departmental faculty generated 12,000 hours of student community service in one semester? The following is a qualitative analysis of conversations with faculty members in a department that recently instituted a service learning requirement for all student majors. The campus is a large urban comprehensive university with a multi-ethnic student body. Approximately fifteen faculty members were interviewed for this study. While most of those interviewed included service learning components in their courses, interviews with faculty members who resisted or refused to incorporate service learning were conducted as well in order to understand varying faculty attitudes towards service learning.
What I once thought was an impossible job, organizing so many books, people helped me understand the work process which made me gain self-confidence that I was able to produce in my work. Part of that confidence was also a sense of pride because I was responsible for placing books onto the shelves that many people come to read. First of all, while a student at BGSU, I will demonstrate these values by dedicating a significant amount of my time to participating in community service. Personally, I believe that the first step in bettering oneself is bettering one’s environment, therefore it is imperative that I take care of my surroundings. The community participation that has changed my life for the better is being apart of The Accelerated College Education (ACE) program at American River College. Being apart of this program has given me a push and motivation to finish and succeed in school. Before I started in the American River College ACE program, college success was not always a part of my college career. I have been and will always consider myself a part of the ACE program community in which I have participated in for the past two years. Unfortunately, I am no longer among the rest of my cohort classmates that have been a part of this amazing community. Looking back I now see that the time was well spent in the ACE program. Taking time to volunteer at the many nonprofit organizations, homeless shelters, advocacy centers, philanthropic fundraisers, local schools and child care facilities in the inner city is not always at the forefront of young people’s minds while navigating through their college experiences. But, with a little push from student organizations, local nonprofits and passionate individuals, volunteerism and community change can start to take a front seat and become not just an opportunity, but also a priority in the lives of young people.
Besides participating in extracurricular activities to belong to a specific group, students can also volunteer for community service.
