Shaun of the Nicomachean Ethics The book Nicomachean Ethics by Aristotle informs the reader on the theory of Virtue Ethics and what that means to everyone. He argues about what it means to be good and how someone can become good. As an example, in grade school most students are subject to some variation of the ‘Pillars of Character’, this is Virtue Ethics, they are just simplified for the kids to learn and inherit them. Virtue ethics is a very familiar thing that many people don’t realize they already know. The main character is Shaun, he is a generic, middle-class, middle-aged, nothing special type of man. He lives with his roommates, Pete and Ed. He has a rocky relationship with a woman named Liz. Shaun has many stuggles in life because he is stuck in the middle. He tries to please everyone and do what he can to help. Sometimes he does too little and never goes out of the ordinary and this is where he runs into trouble. On one end, he wants to do nothing and play video games with his roommate Ed all day. “Shaun of the Dead” might not be the best way to help a reader understand. But, through virtue and always wanting to do good, Shaun teaches us about some of the key terms that Aristotle talks about in Nichomachean Ethics. We learn through his struggles in the Zombie Apocalypse how someone can achieve good. Aristotle talks a lot about how being good happens within the mean and with virtue. Shaun starts off being stuck in the mean and having no want to be good. But he grows and works at being good. If we can all find ways to live virtuously and with good intent like Shaun did in the movie, then the world would be a much better
