In the book Brave New World, the author, Aldous Huxley infers that Virtual reality will play a big role in the far future. The assistant predestinator asks Henry if he’s going to the feelies, and continues to say “I hear the new one at the Alhambra is first-rate. There’s a love scene on a bearskin rug; they say it’s marvelous. Every hair of the bear reproduced. The most amazing tactual effects.” (35) I feel like this is an accurate representation of how virtual reality in today’s modern society could end up being like. In a study, participants showed that stories experienced in VR significantly outperformed text-based articles in several categories, like giving them a sense of presence, or the feeling of actually being there, and increasing their empathy for the storys characters. “ VR stories provide a better sense of being right in the midst of the story than text with pictures and even 360-degree video on a computer screen” Said S. Although VR outperformed text and video, the researchers cautioned that relying on some of the flashier design elements or VR may affect credibility and cause the audience to have less tinst in the story. Using VR in journalism is a good idea because it pulls people in and can be more enjoyable for those who aren’t too fond of reading. Conclusion Overall Aldous Huxley predicted that Virtual Reality was going to play a big part in the future, and boy was he correct. VR has become a big trend in our society today and its being used for so many things that will be useful for years to come. He may not have been 100% accurate but he sure did predict
